Top 25 games of the last 3 years is a really weird metric. 25 is a very small sample. Especially when at least 2 of biggest games and probably more allow you to design your own character.
Also you're looking at what sold the most, not at the diversity of what was made

Yeah that's great! There are tons of black and gay video game characters people love. Only problem is when it's shoe horned in to meet a quota. So many black video game characters I love I can't even name them all. Not as many gay characters of the top of my head that stick out.

There's actually only one other western created AAA action rpg game set in japan (ghost of tsushima). Ppl have wanted an AC game set in japan for a very long time, that's why they are upset by this.
Ofc there are also real racists who are upset by the change...

That's not quite right. In japan college is mainly about drinking, club activities, socialization.
Most of the studying happens in hs then college is easy mode unless you're studying something super technical or want to be a lawyer.

Another thing to consider with streaming is that he talks for hours and hours live every day. Wording something wrong or saying something doesn't 100% reflect your views happens all the time. Usually ppl don't care and move on unless it's about the current thing

You enjoyed it less because you try to platinum it. Mindless side content is really easily ignored in this game because it's telegraphed exactly what it is before you do it. If you play for the main story and side missions it's a good game, albeit with missed opportunities

I think in most cases it is laziness. If the only way to show players what they can interact with is spraying it with yellow paint there's probably a deeper problem in your design language.
Our you're being overly cautious and there should be a way for player to turn it off

The movie is fine, but it was a similar situation where ppl wished we could have a Hollywood take on historical japan with a Japanese lead (have we gotten a single one since?). Ppl were upset about it back then too I remember.
Hollywood has some kind of allergy to Asian leads..

Interesting. I played the original in both Japanese and English, and the English translation was actually superior. Lots of great jokes and personality that were missing from the JP version. Seems they tried to do the same here but lacked the skill to do so tastefully.

2 reasons:
1. Alot of ppl confuse diversity of thought/experience with diversity of skin color/sex/gender. They can overlap but too much focus on the latter can be superficial.
2. Diversity is not always the best organizing principal. Unity of vision/alignment is paramount
