An asteroid is hurtling towards Earth. The world’s diplomats come together to address the emergency. And they spend the whole time talking about how to create “market mechanisms” to try and avoid actually paying for asteroid defense. That’s basically #COP25 so far.

Why should we worry about double counting under #Article6 of the #ParisAgreement at #COP25? Let us explain with this cartoon strip, with characters representing countries. Thread below. ⬇

"Even as coal fades...." A 0.9% fall in global coal emissions is NOT fading. A 10% fall in global coal emissions is fading. Anyone that thinks "coal is done" is missing the urgency with which the world needs to act...

This neatly summarises humanity's climate challenge. We're on the orange line, we've improved from the bright red line...but guys we need to be on the grey line ASAP. #climateemergency #ClimateCrisis

In fact, its all those night time setbacks which create a huge morning peak as every building recovers +- 10 degrees. I think we would be better off (no math yet) keeping the house warm (which will use more kWh) but will result in less morning peak.

@pecanstreetinc @eGaugeSystems @goldenmatt It turns out my house here in Berkeley is a microcosm of this problem. Here is my chart: green is PV output, yellow is my (gas) furnace power demand. It's true that I set my thermostat back in the day and overnight, but also that heating load declines in the day. (next slide)

Worth a read! Three important messages immediately catch my eye (among others) 1) There is evidence that capacity markets drive excess capacity, 2) consumers end up paying more, 3) capacity is not the service needed to support reliability.

10 years ago, EU member states committed to phasing out fossil fuel subsidies by 2025. However, as of today, not a single EU country has yet spelled out a plan to phase them out. Next step: 🇪🇺governments must fix this in their 2030 climate plans #NECPs. https://t.co/HkBpnqdUcR
