The question is, do consumer groups 1) want FERC to improve load forecasts or 2) want FERC to give buyers the ability to make their own load forecasts (and pay for the consequences if they get it wrong)?.

Potentially disagreeing with some other takes I have seen: this seems to be an issue with reserve deliverability, something that improved dispatch algorithms might be able to address without the need for more hardware.

Earlier this evening, MISO issued a load shed request (temporary power outages) of approximately 600 MW in Louisiana to @Entergy and @ClecoPower to maintain the reliability of the bulk electric system. High temperatures in Louisiana led to higher-than-expected demand, and with.

So, I think my take is slightly different from @AriPeskoe 's (. Whereas the "Grid Resiliency Pricing Rule" was dead on arrival, there's a version of the new order that could work (subject to all the considerations in Ari's article).

Not sure if this counts as a hot take on the Trump EO, but there is only one "uniform methodology" consistent with principles of competitive markets, and it is marginal ELCC based on expected unserved energy (.

New working paper, "Operational Uncertainty and the Missing Money Problem." Here we argue that competitive electricity markets probably overcompensate peakers relative to plants whose production is spread over more hours of the year (e.g., nuclear)

I think Appendix C of this NYPA report is the clearest summary of interconnection process and recent reforms that I have come across for any system:

Certainly seems like we're just going to keep applying short-term patches instead of doing something principled on queue reform.

On the heels of FERC's approval of CAISO's prioritization of #interconnection requests, PJM is now proposing to prioritize interconnections of larger projects with higher capacity accreditations Expect similar efforts to come in other RTOs as well.
