If you try and don’t quit, sometimes you get to know that you tried and didn’t quit! Kudos to Grid Strategies’ @shrevito for #3 in age group. I got pulled out of the 4.4mile Cheaspeake Bay Swim along with 25% of field after 3.75mi fighting headwinds and waves. Next time.

We now have a 2-2 split @FERC . Meaning, of course, economists vs lawyers! Never had an economist (incl MBA and MPP) majority while the Fed always has, despite both agencies' economic policy role. The difference never made sense to me or my father, an economist Fed Governor.

Spoke on NPR about the coal orders. . The orders ignore the role of gas in coal's demise.

I’m not seeing much practical impact. Natural gas fracking killed coal power in the US and neither this nor any previous administration is banning fracking. 9/9.

DOE has no general authority to prevent retirements. They can use their temporary situational FPA 202c authority to over-ride environmental policies to run plants in defined emergencies. There is no specific emergency yet defined that triggers the authority.8/9.

The state policy EO looks like it directs the AG to try to challenge state climate policies in court as unconstitutional. Of course, they are constitutional and consistent with our federalist system as courts have found for over four decades.7/9.

Coal plants will likely be kept on line longer than believed a few years ago due to an uptick in power demand. But that is unrelated to these orders, and doesn’t mean the plants will operate outside of peak periods to maintain reliability.6/9.
