Silicon Valley today is insane because you grow up watching Steve Jobs talk about tech+liberal arts and feel like technology can be inspiring and awesome and then you arrive and your options are high-school vibes, social contract breaking gremlins, or literal anti-human cults

🚀 AI optimizes tensor kernels to run 17x faster than human expert designs! [ADRS Blog] Programming hardware accelerators is notoriously hard. We describe Autocomp, the first LLM-driven optimizer for tensor accelerators, which outperforms hand-tuned expert kernels on AWS

@scaling01 If performance is not increasing rapidly, the frontier becomes token/$/watt. If this is true, scaling will be much less effective than software improvements. This also makes scale a liability that exposes immense risks. Frontier labs might risk complete collapse.

Gemini 3.0 is an important signal: will AI stagnate or not? If 7.5T param is true, then Google has no solution other than scale -- a clear signal of stagnation. Opus 4.5 better be a monster, or we are stuck: Google, OpenAI, and xAI have no solutions. AGI won't come anytime soon.

Hopes for further scaling computing power for AI currently all rely on a foundation-owned German firm that manufactures mirrors and lenses with atomic precision: Carl Zeiss. The higher the precision, the more powerful the chips. Read the new @bismarckanlys Brief (link below):

The more you get into nuclear the more you realize the farther you get away from your ordinary Light Water Reactors, the more you’re facing a material science problem more than anything else. People kinda forget how many problems you solve when you have solid fuel and water as

I am old enough to remember when energy access was considered a key disadvantage for China. This wasn't even controversial: Beijing itself long recognized energy as its key developmental (and geopolitical) bottleneck. Flipping it from a disadvantage to an emerging advantage is

🏗️ Hardware Memory bandwidth is becoming the choke point slowing down GenAI. During 2018–2022, transformer model size grew ~410 every 2 years, while memory per accelerator grew only about 2× every 2 years. And that mismatch shoves us into a “Memory-Wall” The "memory wall" is

Here is Peter Thiel’s email to Zuck and Andreessen in Jan-2020 predicting socialism. Tl;dr too much student debt and lack of affordable housing keeps young people with negative capital for too long. And without a stake in the capitalist system, they will turn against it.

I was involved in government (California) when this switch happened. I vouch for this thread’s explanation. It was a hippie mistake, a notion that took hold. No one spoke up for asylums. It’s past time to reinvent them.

This pic will undoubtedly go down as one of the most famous Australian aviation pics ever. It was photographed by Nino Lo Giudice from the rooftop of fellow photographer David Kapernick’s apartment on the edge of the Brisbane River. credit Nino Lo Guidice.

My favorite part about San Francisco is the "loop". Others call it the "pattern", the "constant repetition", etc. Did you miss Office Hours last week? Don't fret! It might change slightly based on theme or attendance, but I promise, everything is always exactly the same. Forever
