Rape as a crime is so fundamentally different. There can be loose justifications for other crimes, like poverty; even murder can be accidental or in self defense. There has never been & will never be a situation that necessitates or accidentally causes rape. The answer is no.

Thousands of women look away when their partners molest children. The judge (a man) doubled her recommended sentence for not being one of those women; the pedophile is still free. This is what solidarity between men who have an interest in upholding rape culture looks like.

That's why rape is so psychologically damaging. Victims of other crimes can try to soothe themselves with justifications, but rape victims know they were victimized because the perpetrator wanted to, chose to, & derived pleasure from the terror & pain of the victim.

This is the litmus test for anyone with left-leaning politics. Your criticisms of individualism & theorizing about community are a meaningless performance if you're constantly disparaging children for existing in public & demanding you play no role in their safety or well-being.
My ‘hot take’ on children that isn’t really a hot take is when a child is out in public and whether you are childless or not, that child is now peripherally under your care also. Children’s safety is a community effort.

I'm not going to rt the viral video of the homeless woman giving birth on a sidewalk because it's disgusting someone took that video (& worse they offered her no help), but the vitriolic responses shaming her show how almost no one cares about the issues homeless women face.

The websites women like you rely on to do this "alone in your room" host trafficked women directed by a pimp behind the screen - because you're not "alone in your room," you're publicly participating in a website utilized & accessed by millions of people.

That same app has dozens, maybe hundreds, of videos of mothers sobbing, being brutally honest, showing the horrible side to pregnancy, birth, & motherhood. But of course a man, who sacrifices nothing to birth & raise a child, doesn't understand why a woman wouldn't want kids.

Men had to impose slavery on women & create a field of study (philosophy) to justify it, all to remove women as intellectual competition; shortly after women won the fight to enter higher education they outperformed men & now men are opting out. Who's the real intellectual here?

The comments are full of pro-life arguments being repurposed to excuse letting women die in childbirth...in a country with an unnecessarily high maternal mortality rate due to medical misogyny, esp in states where abortion is completely banned.

Little Women is explicitly about the constraints of gender roles, specifically for women, in that time period. This entire thread is viewing that message through the regressive modern lens that says you must be a boy if you feel constrained by societal expectations of girlhood.

when i began my research on louisa may alcott and little women i'd hedge a lot, like - the concept of transness hadn't been invented, the vocabulary didn't exist, who's to say - but standing on the other side of two years of archival research... lou alcott was trans. period.

It's "women couldn't open their own bank account until 1974" until it's time to joke about ending permanent alimony, as if women over 65 aren't more likely to be poor & suffer elderly poverty because they had no option but to shoulder the burden of unpaid domestic labor.

The sad part of all of this is that we have enough resources for everyone yet millions of people go without; meanwhile we're stuck arguing over whether the government should regulate birth rather than what role the government can play in ensuring everyone has enough.

I don't know this family's story, but if the media is going to start normalizing the idea of using pregnant women's brain dead bodies for gestation then we need to start with the fact that it's not an altruistic choice, rather it's a legal requirement.

Totally ignoring women who need to wash blood off of their hands after changing their pad or tampon & the women who use cups or reusable pads who need to rinse them in the sink. As if men didn't have enough to shame us about already when it comes to our periods.

A convicted rapist confirming that participating in CNC would encourage him to rape women--it's almost like roleplaying as a rapist teaches men to enjoy rape. There can be no compromise on violent male sexuality, especially when it comes to the violation of consent.

Men appropriated the feminist discussion about the exploitative role of true crime in our society and are now twisting it into a selfish excuse to get off on scaring women to continue feeling powerful in the face of the threat of women's growing stability & independence.

divorce ourselves from the reality of it, to pretend it's not *all* women, just some women & definitely not women like us. When I called these prostituted women, well, "women," it reminded her that she's no different from them, that men can & do look at her & see no difference.

"Sacred womb beliefs mystify reproductive labor." That's funny considering men - who created & have always been the authority in medicine - never bothered to study reproduction irt women's bodies & instead jumped to trying to create artificial wombs.

@driaspears When I was in high school there was a moral panic over the idea of placing a handful of boys on the SO registry for distributing nude photos of their peers, the argument being that it shouldn't count as CP because those sharing it are children themselves. Look where that got us.

Men, wholly uneducated on women's bodies, believe the sole purpose of our bodies, esp our sex organs, is childbirth. You've obviously internalized that message if you believe that's all your uterus is good for. And yet you accuse others of "reducing" women to patriarchal ideas.

Yet I know Americans hate their taxes going towards bettering society (we can't even reach a consensus on feeding children lunch) & if we can't get well-off husbands to share their salary as compensation for the labor of motherhood, there's no way this would be funded by taxes.

Women had the right to abortion before they could have bank accounts. You don't think that's one of their next goals? You don't think all of this is tied together? You think they planned to *stop* at forced motherhood? They're already talking about childbrides. Wake the fuck up.

Feminism has long recognized women are socialized to operate from a place of fear & self perseverance in public, upheld through male violence - from catcalling to assault. Discussing this reality is not a concession women are "weak," it's a recognition of male behavior.
