Ireland's first net zero retail store. Proving to pale stale males & planners "it can be done!" Well done Lidl, Kildare Coco (again, leading) for leading retail on showing Net Zero can be done & proving old men wrong. Lidl also do net zero homes in AU. https://t.co/CimRCpjU1N

Well done to @ClareCoCo @JamesBrowneTD @JoeCooneyTD for removing another big blockage put in place by planners/OPR, which stops population growth. Some LAโs see problems & ignore Ministers. @WaterfordCounci Clare TDโs & dept, in this instance, leading! https://t.co/esj1X0yeYu

A PROPOSAL originally presented to the Oireachtas by Clare TD Joe Cooney (FG) to install modular wastewater systems in rural towns and villages has now been adopted by the Government.

Instead of centralizing energy, use EV batteries to power homes during peak. Do it for rural (then lower need to โupgradeโ when the storms come). Partner with China & US for scale & finance / roll out But stop overcentralisation of energy as itโs costly & crippling.
The data center boom is the biggest driver of the surge in electricity demandย โ but itโs not the only cause. The inexorable rise of EVs is also spiking power demand. Right now, there are about 40 GW of EVs sitting in peopleโs driveways across the US, according to Apoorv

Other countries mayors act on behalf of communities. Ireland has mayors that are utterly clueless on their districts and wonโt say boo to a goose as scared of LAโs & Departments. โGovernance gone wrong.โ Not a single token muni mayor asks communities for their priorities.
Vancouver region mayors unanimous on calling for repeal of Housing bills 44 and 47. Letter to follow. Meeting was Oct 17. The mayors don'tย hold back " The Province didn't know what they are doing, they did it anyway, some of it is irreversible" because you have just made land

Hereโs betting that unlike Waterford councillors & council exec (past & present), this will be widely welcomed by Tipp rather than kicked in the face by town clown councillors & egoโs.

The money and the growth is going to be in the energy supply. However, in Ireland; thatโs a shโtshow
Spending on data centers in the US has grown by 200% since the launch of ChatGPT. But spending on the power grid that supports those data centers has only grown by 20%. More in my newsletter today ๐ https://t.co/oqPHaVlDnP

1.4m 18-44โs donโt own. Who measures home ownership or rental stock each month!? No one. Which politician is including that young demand, including buffer stock for IPAS, in housing & economic policies? No one. Or mapping & using the 69,000 vacant 6 & 12 yrs? No one.

Vital reading given the damage being done by @PlanningReg / NPF which is about plan - Led (land value inflation) and not about the common good. The exclusion of 1.4m 18-44โs from housing โneedsโ and 1m new jobs plus resultant damage to rural and depopulation makes this vital.
Gotta love peer review. Thank you Susan S. Fainstein, Harvard University https://t.co/JqbUaZM1xN "Broken City is an excellent primer on the drivers of housing prices and strategies for reducing housing costs. After discarding regulatory restraints on supply as the main cause of

Ultra low carbon homes. Meaning โsustainable livingโ can be done in rural. Of course, planners / central government and cement companies wonโt like that itโs 70% less carbon than say, โโฌ650kโ 2 bed, 50 tonnes of cement /carbon city new apartments. https://t.co/P9zyL6YF7l

A metro is being built, rather than โplanned on paper to increase adjacent land owners values & large contractors, with taxpayers picking up the tab rather than users.โ Thatโs sustainable. Through a large city. Clearly this is not Ireland.

We face the measurable and certain catastrophic effects of climate change and yet funding is not available to invest in early warning or emergency response capacity. This is where investment in defence and security should be prioritised, not fighter jets. https://t.co/9jk7eZmydZ

Mayor runs on affordable homes & public transport and gets elected with a huge turnout by young in one of the largest cities in the world; NYC. Meanwhile in Ireland. Token mayors & central government give out money each year to old men to do nothing on Affordable & annoy young

@BarbaraPocock The Inquiryโs Framing Misses the Real Story Behind Housing Costs While the idea of a Senate Select Committee on Intergenerational Housing Inequity sounds positive, the very title of this proposed inquiry predetermines the outcome โฆ it assumes โinequityโ is solely a generational

Ireland really needs to learn lessons in energy PDQ. Weโre missing out on the Ai plus the energy evolution it then spins off as lots of RE means lots of energy generation for homes / communities IF there was joined up planning / thinking. Which is completely absent from NPF
Little in the power sector is ever truly simple, but I'm hopeful the piece makes these ideas accessible to a broader audience. Very much welcome your thoughts - and if nothing else, at least we have a new artistic depiction of 'flexible' power infrastructure that ran with the

2. some LA's (WCCC) refused to work with Hisco to work around flawed NPF/OPR plans. Those that did are now already seeing "top of league table" supply results on >200 homes per 10,000 p.a. & 10x more supply delivered than Lismore/D'gvan, who didn't use. https://t.co/fOThY9pvoL

Welcome move @JamesBrowneTD for rural in particular. Now makes much of OPR/ county housing plans / planners saying โcanโt get planning / canโt supply due to lack of infrastructureโ which is just another LA / OPR excuse (as seen in Waterford CC โplanโ undermining Ministers target)

Imagine all the 18 years experiencing good transport then coming back going โWTFโ? Can we not send policy makers & council / councillors away instead to experience what life without the โMileage expenses & big carโ is like?

The new moat of growth is energy. Irelandโs planning system / NPF and disconnect from reality in LAโs and Deptโs means inability to deliver energy connections. No wonder there have been no new jobs in tech in last 3 years. Losing the race? Not even at the races. Billions lost
Satya just told you the entire AI trade thesis is wrong and nobody is repricing anything. Microsoft has racks of H100s collecting dust because they literally cannot plug them in. Not "won't," cannot. The power infrastructure does not exist. Which means every analyst model that's

Shareholders over common good. And policy makers put shareholders above the common good, as if itโs 1950 as they lack the vision & integrity to stand up to who makes farmers indebted, banks with loans on equipment (the most indebted /leveraged sector in Ireland is agri.)
โWe export 90% of our beef and dairy, yet import the calories to feed half our own population. Our rivers are collapsing under nitrate pollution. Farmers are leaving the land. And the taxpayer is set to pay billions in EU fines for agricultural emissions. This episode dives into
