Data often lie on a low-dimensional manifold embedded in a high-dimensional space. But these manifolds are often highly non-linear, making linear dimensionality reduction methods like PCA insufficient. This has motivated the development of non-linear dimensionality reduction.

Everyone is worried about jobs being automated away. Respectfully, that's not our problem. Worry about within-job change. 2.6 billion workers have to reskill on 10-15% of their job, in flight. And default AI use makes novices more optional. That's our trillion-dollar problem.

Can AI automate jobs? We created the Remote Labor Index to test AI’s ability to automate hundreds of long, real-world, economically valuable projects from remote work platforms. While AIs are smart, they are not yet that useful: the current automation rate is less than 3%.

Highly recommend this piece by @bfjo from the recent NBER transformative AI conference out in Palo Alto. Q: how much do bottlenecks matter for AI affecting R&D, and more importantly, how can we estimate from *existing data* the link between those bottlenecks and growth.

A great summary of the research behind the Nobel prize winners today. This is the literature that brought me to economics and motivates lots of my work even today. The cherry on top is to see the amazing Philippe Aghion being celebrated and recognized for his brilliance.
