It saddens me to see a formal president and commander in chief talked like this. The level of pessimism and defeatism makes you wonder which country he truly works for.

That's the response I got quite a lot when ppl know I am from Taiwan. When I followed up and said, "but look at Hong Kong..." they said HK is different b/c US is behind it, etc.

"To put it bluntly, life in Taiwan this year has been ridiculously normal"
True. I especially like the critique part of this piece. Rising nationalism still doesn't justify some blind spots and outright descrimination against racialized lower class.

Taiwan Enjoys an "I Told You So" Moment After Tangling with China and the WHO

y'all, it actually takes a lot of time and energy to craft a good recommendation letter (which is something I only learned after I started writing letters).
you do so simply because you want your students to achieve more and do better than you.

Good to see one negotiation mandate is on promotion of SME. Taiwan’s economy is composed of mostly SME, how to help them diversify their markets share and rely less on the China market is key.
The United States and Taiwan, under the auspices of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO), will commence formal negotiation on the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade.
This popular science article lays the foundation of my research inquiry: 1) what are the roles of regime type and state capacity in health crisis governance? 2) what accounts for Taiwan's success at the early stage? 3/n
The upshot:
"
#Compliance
regime is not driven by top-down enforcement but through the integration of policy design and implementation that remove all barriers for compliance.
#Taiwan
’s street-level bureaucrats (aka 里幹事) are the glue of the compliance regime."
