Irrelevant. Evi's point is still valid and important. Albanians were Christian before converting to Islam, and they built and attended these same Churches which are now exclusively claimed by the Serbs (not so Christian IMHO). While there were Albanian-speaking families which…
@Independent_ie
Partition of Ireland was a disaster, both politically, economic and social. It sowed the seeds of conflict that killed and displaced tens of thousands of Irish people. To go and celebrate this is an insult to those who have suffered. Shame on you
@simoncoveney
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give to you the Professor of European Politics, Jean Monnet Chair at NUI Maynooth who doesn’t know anything about European history or International law.
Kosovo is not Serbian. Djokovic supports the enormously destructive Serb imperialism that led to mass killing of Kosovan Albanians in 1998-99.
He should be thrown out of the French Open, and out of tennis.

Good on them. It's about the Europeans stood up and defended their own interests. It is in our own interests to work and trade with Russia and China.
@McFaul
Comparing USSR with the European colonial empires is nonsense. The USSR and 🇪🇦🇬🇧🇨🇵🇧🇪🇵🇹 colonial empires were world's apart in terms of ideology, political and socio-economic makeup. Many Ukrainians rose to and served in the upper echelons of the Soviet political establishment.
@nealerichmond
The first thing NATO did when they bombed Yugoslavia was to take out all the civilian infrastructure. Same thing the US did to Iraq and Libya. I don't recall you denouncing these actions as 'terrorism'.

250,000 Kosovo Serbs, Jews, Roma and Gorani ended up getting ethnically cleansed. Do these people not even register with you?

Disagree with you there. Russia has an excellent diplomatic corps and foreign service. They respond well to reasonable and rational talks.

Agree.
#China
and

have long learned how to coexist with each other, it's just that the US is deliberately stoking tensions for its own gains.
The sight of the young boy being pushed away, trying in vain to save his father from being sent to certain death is heartbreaking. All these online warmongering goons screaming

When you have the bigwigs at RTE like former Commercial Director, Geraldine O'Leary who spent nearly €75k on "discretionary spending" and others who have chalked up another €100k on the taxpayers' dime, engaging in actual investigative journalism takes a back seat.
@leonidragozin
Spot on. Just like the bombings, invasions and dronings of Yugoslavia, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Yemen etc. As is the continued supply of weapons to Ukraine by the US and NATO in this current proxy war.
Joe Brolly is right. The Free State establishment buried their collective heads in the sand and ignored for decades rampant discrimination that Catholics went through daily. When it all blew up in August '69, they feigned ignorance & carried on dumping babies in septic tanks.

In December 1918, the people of Ireland overwhelmingly voted 78% for independence. London refused to accept the result & so they instead carved out a gerrymandered and sectarian Protestant state in the North East of Ireland against the expressed wishes of the Irish people.
Ukraine has shut down all opposition media, banned all opposition parties and detained/murdered/disappeared opposition activists. It is also actively seeking the arrest and extradition of opposition activists like

is a democracy?

The problem
@simoncoveney
is not the virus, but the state of our health system to cope. Decades of neo-liberal policies have run down our social services to such an extent, we cannot cope with an emergency without imposing lockdowns.
@bneeditor
The thing is Ben, they don't. Western governments know very well that Putin has zero intention of marching on Berlin 2.0. Yet they are still ramping up the "Russia is a huge threat to us all and we must prepare for war" malarky. Pure cynical stuff if you ask me.
@TarikCyrilAmar
There is definitely a shift in public opinion in the West as the population are slowly waking up to the fact that their political leaders are sacrificing their economies, livlihoods and well being in order to maintain US geopolitical and economic hegemony over Europe.
@Independent_ie
Mr. Filatov is correct. Instead of acting in the role of peacemaker as Sean Lemass, Frank Aiken, Jack Lynch and Garrett Fitzgerald would have done, the current Zanu FFG admin has acted against our interests by undermining our neutrality and acting as WEF warmongering stooges.
Good opportunity to meet and talk to Chancellor of Queens University,

Wrong. 🏴 was peacefully Co-opted into 🇬🇧 in 1707 when its rulers voted for the Union. 🇮🇪 was forced into it and ruled as a colony against the expressed wishes of the Catholic majority. Scots formed an important part of the UK and Empire ruling elite. Irish Catholics didn't.

There are still expellees alive and voting today. I was in Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg) back in 2019 and my hotel was full of them. Many were visiting their childhood homes and schools. It was sad to listen to their stories.

I had close relatives who fought in both wars. I watched as a child as they drank themselves into the grave unable to cope from the horrors they witnessed. They detested war. Another granduncle of mine was KIA aged just 19. I oppose any attempts to corral us into US/NATO wars.
@IFR2022
I would send them to the trenches instead. They seem so willing to cheer on 100,000s of working class Ukrainian men and women being fed to the meatgrinder to fight for the interests of the native Ukrainian parasitic comprador capitalist elite and US global corporate capitalism.
@BBCSteveR
1) Ukraine will never join the EU.
2) Sweden and Finland membership of NATO uncertain and will not benefit them in anyway.
3) Russia is a commodities rich economy with $600 billion in the kitty
4. European economies are screwed.
5. Russia is winning the war.

Outlawing socialist & communist parties, privatization, marrying and co-opting the industrial capitalist class to the State, dismantling workers' rights including the right to collective bargaining and right to strike as well as enacting racist and anti semitic policies are Carl.

Authentic. A lot of dissatisfaction has been brewing in Russia the last while over corruption but is being exploited by Western governments.

And Serbia would be well within its right to take back its breakaway territory under international law - in the same way Ukraine and Georgia would. Or are some secessions more equal than others?

It's a marriage of convenience. The West gets a compliant and Russophobic Ukraine. The Kiev liberal establishment and oligarchs get to loot Ukraine using the local bonehead street fash as hired muscle.

Yes it is Serbian, John. UN resolution 1244, the Constitution of Serbia and the Helsinki Accords says so ie. International Law.
