👀👀👀👀 👇👇👇👇👇 Crazy idea here: maybe Hochul should follow laws not ignore them like Trump for the benefit of the oil and gas company’s profits

Climate victory: NY court rules that State Dept. of Env. Conservation must issue its GHG cap-and-invest rules, as required by NY climate law, by Feb. 6. DEC was ready to issue the rules but Gov. Hochul stopped them. Next question: Will they appeal? https://t.co/UL5u02NGpV

Not hard to understand the assignment @GovKathyHochul. No more footsie with Trump. Stop the NESE pipeline for Staten Islanders and everyone else in New York. #NoTrumpPipelines https://t.co/b1y6IkmKlh

The pipeline has drawn bipartisan opposition from Staten Island leaders.

Over the last days, mayoral candidates Cuomo and Sliwa and their supporters have launched a barrage of baseless hateful rhetoric claiming Zohran supports “global jihad,” that he would “cheer for 9/11” and running ads with the word “jihad” across his face. We are outraged.

RAPP Organizer Stanley Bellamy survived four decades in prison and helped to create and run the most effective anti-violence education programs before Gov. Hochul granted him clemency. He attended her event to thank her and tell her there are countless more who deserve the same.

Something I really admire about NYCC is how they engage with politicians. They don't pick pols and then just act as a fandom, but rather engage strategically, crediting them when they do right and hammering them when they don't.

In response to Comptroller Lander’s post titled “NYCC and BlackRock and Brad, on my!” We began organizing on climate change in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy, when our members were trapped in their buildings without power, without access to food or medical care for weeks on end.🧵

Lander attack against communities for change is wrong. They played a critical role in divestment when I was comptroller. His pander claim that divestment was stuck is just not true. Looking forward to a real climate agenda with mark levine!

Important thread. Please read. I think we should always hold our own electeds accountable. Especially the ones we love most and depend on to keep their promises to us.

👀👀👀👀👀👀 We kicked around adding more details, and maybe we will. Anyway, Lander should move the city’s giant business over time from dirtier money managers, like BlackRock, to cleaner money managers. That would use the power he holds to stand up to Trump. 👇👇👇👇👇👇

Although we deeply disagree with Lander’s depiction of our work, there are two months left in his term. Comptroller Lander can fulfill his promises by sending deficient, dirty asset managers, including BlackRock, to rebid as he promised.

The policies we support protect both the planet and the pension funds for workers and retirees – and large European public pension funds are acting.

With Trump and his minions successfully pressuring firms like BlackRock to back off even very modest climate action, local elected officials are the only hope for climate vulnerable communities. The pension funds are one of the most powerful, market-shaping tools NYC has.

Like most politicians, Lander does not like to be held accountable. But as organizers, we know that is exactly our role—to hold elected officials to their word and push them towards progress.

With our allies, we’ve campaigned for 4 years for this. There are now two months left in Comptroller Lander’s term - and he has yet to deliver on these commitments. He’s blown past multiple deadlines he himself committed to.

Comptroller Lander is attacking us to obfuscate that he is failing to deliver on commitments to our communities—specifically to move city pension funds out of dirty Wall Street money managers like BlackRock that fuel climate destruction.

We know that the impacts of climate change will always hit low-income communities of color the hardest, which is why climate justice is a central part of NYCC’s mission.
