Snow is an incredible way of visualizing how much space cars need to turn at an intersection. You can see that cars don’t come close to the curb (black), and therefore you can push out the curb for more pedestrian visibility (to the red).

@ShanuMathew93 @ENERGY We can get 100GWs interconnected by 2030 and reduce electricity costs by 20%. But it requires keeping our eye on the prize. Demanding flexibility from large loads, saying yes to everything that is safe to interconnect, deploying 20 year old grid enhancing technologies, batteries.

@ShanuMathew93 @ENERGY In the short term we need everyone to adopt Texas connect and manage (say yes to interconnection with curtailment), deploy lots of batteries, unlock flexibility through FERC Order 2222, deploy grid enhancing technologies to get 30% more out of the grid we have already paid for.

Elevators and single stair access can unlock 10-20% bump in housing construction Higher square footage floor plan efficiency and accessibility yield more space for humans to live Oh —— and soon we won’t need garages or parking spaces — again yielding more space for humans
US code requires elevators to be large enough to fit FULL SIZE stretchers diagonally. This size elevator is expensive as hell and basically makes lots of missing middle a non-starter. Legalizing small European elevators would do wonders to enable more missing-middle housing.

Affordable all day solar is here. Solar already produces affordable power during the day. Rapid battery cost declines now mean that a solar + battery system that can move around 50% of its output to other parts of the day only costs $76/MWh ☀️ $43 solar 🔋 $33 storage

“Physicists are made of atoms. A physicist is an attempt by an atom to understand itself” - Carl Sagan The image below is of 10,000 galaxies. It is taken from sliver of the sky the size of our view of the moon. 🌖 Imagine the possibilities of your day today.

Tesla batteries go 300k–500k miles before hitting 70–80% capacity. Motors are engineered for 1 million+ miles Most owners never replace a pack — it lasts longer than the car. Gas cars? Engines & transmissions often fail far earlier + hi maintenance. @DirtyTesLa @AukeHoekstra
@AukeHoekstra How long does a ev car last? No one will replace the battery due to cost. But a petrol car keeps running

A battery EV: mine once, drive 300,000 miles, then recycle 95%. Daily “refuel” comes from rooftop solar. A gas car: mine a gallon → burn it in 30 miles → mine again. Endlessly polluting atmosphere.
"New EV battery recycling process recycles 95% of nickel and cobalt with 99% purity." Meanwhile, fossil fuel is stuck at 0%. https://t.co/j9RlXZqcYc

Cheers to all the math teachers who share the excitement, joy and beauty of math! It is the language of the universe It’s a shame so many teachers bore students with rote math.

In 3 yrs this #solar installation at an Arkansas high school turned the district’s budget from a $250K deficit to a $1.8 million surplus. They're using the surplus to pay teachers more We have the solutions. Implement them. #ActOnClimate

Here's a nice write-up of the work by recent PhD student Dr. Nick Laws of @CamusEnergy @NREL on the value of non-wires alternatives. Big savings! Batteries & Rooftop Solar Can Lead to Huge Savings for the Entire Grid. A New Study Shows How (and How Much)
insideclimatenews.org
Reducing demand for electricity has broad benefits, including less need to add new wires and grid equipment.

No matter how you measure it, there is a lot of parking in the U.S. According to some estimates there are as many as six parking spaces for every car. Put another way, America devotes more square footage to storing cars than housing people.

Here’s a special clip for those who believe unregulated free market capitalism is the only answer. It maybe the only answer for the top 1%, but what if I could prove that social democracy was more efficient, while at the same time delivering a more equitable society? Thanks to
