What I like best is that they are very very transparent. I always look at the annex with underlying assumptions and here I think it is well written, short but exhaustive and accurate.

It references a lot of the classic authoritarian playbook:.- scapegoating immigrants.- exaggerating crime rates.- aggrandizing executive power.- quashing dissent.- idealizing the leader. To call it trolling instead of a threat and a slide to authoritarianism makes you complicit.

The slimmed down AI Trump references an absurd scene in Apocalypse now where a village has been destroyed to create better surfing conditions by the tragic "KilGore" who's devoid of purpose and afraid the war will end. A "joke" that asks "How can humans lose their way this bad?"

It's the US military. Not Trump's army. This normalizes a path from democracy to authoritarianism. The USA is so polarized that for half the population, loyalty to the tribe, and dislike of the other tribe and immigrants, seems more important than staying democratic.

Clean Energy is dominating in a big way. It is very clear that traditional fuels can’t scale 10x to meet this moment. I think we are going to solve electricity poverty globally with solar + batteries by 2035. But our industry is being run by folks that are too risk averse.

One solar panel of 30 kg replaces 8 tonnes of coal (or 40 barrels of oil) and 25 tonnes of CO2. Let me show you:. Every solar panel has a number of wattpeak or Wp, that indicates what it produces in "ideal" (1000W/m2) sunshine conditions. So in ideal conditions it would produce

Solar, wind and batteries are building blocks with a large volume but a low profit margin. They replace problematic building blocks with a larger volume and bigger profit margin. This is excellent news. (But do try to help you domestic solar industry too. Esp. with recycling.).

My advice to policy makers: don't sweat it that China produces panels and batteries cheaper at the moment:. They will always cost a fraction of what you pay fossil fuels. Unlike fossil fuels, a solar panel you buy provides energy for 35 yrs. They will commoditize.

Wow! China is not just selling us solar panels, they are also "eating their own dogfood". You know why? Because solar+batteries is cheaper and cleaner than the fossil fuel it replaces. It's really that simple. And by building more solar+batteries, prices go down further.

Africa: nowhere else on earth do solar panels have so much added value per panel, both economically and in human well being. Heartwarming to see @CleanPowerDave!.

Trump halting wind projects, even if almost finished. Honest question. Is this:. Culture war. Stupidity (honestly believing that isane BS about wind threatening natural security). Corruption (payments by the fossil lobby). Enjoying power abuse. .

@TUeindhoven The best book on the topic imho - much better than my article - is "Making Sense of Chaos: A Better Economics for a Better World" by J. Doyne Farmer.

I outlined some of these problems in 2017 in an article, because the scientists at the @TUeindhoven simply couldn't believe it. So yeah, the economic field of study is incredibly important, and it's a shame it resists becoming an actual science.

Love Hunter's posts but. Economics COULD be very useful if it became a science. The problem is it still prefers theory over empiricism, disproven rational actor models over realistically deciding people, and simplistic equilibrium models over realistic simulations.

I have come to believe that economics is the single most useful field for understanding the world. It’s very far from sufficient on its own, and many other fields are indispensable. But it forces you to think of scarcity, trade-offs, incentives, equilibria, and marginal effects.
