At @paper we think that design has different needs than eng for good reasons Design is expanding: what should we do? Mapping the problem space, studying prior art, experimenting visually, trying 10 versions right next to each other, sharing in real time Engineering is

Every time I play with new CSS features it makes me sad knowing it will be a few years before Safari gets even close to implementing them fully, not to mention Firefox. Still have to use clunky JS solutions and fallbacks for so much if I want to support iOS.

Did @NotionHQ just forget about @NotionMail? Checked it out after a while and there isn't even a way to view Starred emails despite them having a Star button built in? Huh? No way to take actions on groups without selecting all the emails. What's going on?

The X algorithm has improved, my feed is mostly design posts now (oddly not much science or politics). But the actual design posts I’m seeing are largely engagement slop an bait, sometimes even from well known names in the design world who know better. I miss old design Twitter.

Until basic quality of life stuff like not re-adding lines of code I manually deleted is addressed in AI coding tools they are simply not ready for pushing production code. I am sure they ARE pushing prod code, but I bet a lot of it has stuff in there the devs did not intend.

Entomologist here 🙋♂️🤓🐜 Great question! It may seem surprising that the scientific community could miss an entire bug species after all this time, especially when it’s THIS big. The answer might surprise you more 👀 Let’s dive in 👇🧵 (1/?)

@littmath So I think "will AI replace humans at <field>" is kind of a silly question that ignores how humans and fields work, but "will AI combined with poor economic incentives cause unemployment and other issues for humans in <field> for some time" is a "probably yes" for many fields

How does @figma go about releasing an entire new layout mode without finishing basic stuff like having wrap work for both horizontal and vertical layouts? And what about grid wrapping? That's a thing in CSS! Let me do what I know is possible in layout FFS!

It's remarkable how consistently company behavior changes for the worse as they grow larger. @figma trademarking and legally pursuing usage of "dev mode" is just embarrassing and even more evidence that Figma is on the downtrend and will be replaced in next couple of years.

What I think a winning agenda for Democrats could look like: 1) @AOC/@SenSanders-style economic populism. Tax the rich, expand public services, balance the budget. Skip the ideological fluff: no anti-capitalism and degrowth blabla, just good old-fashioned social democracy. 2)

As far as I can tell it is actually impossible in React Native to have a wrapping row of equal width items where they fill each row edge to edge and the remainder in last row match above widths. This is due to RN only having flex layouts and not grid. Any ideas?

After several delays, @DOGE has finally posted its purported savings. Why did it take so long to create a simple webpage with a 1000-row table? Who knows! Let's dig in. Headline number: $55B saved. They list the savings per nixed contract. This should be easy to verify then. 🧵
It's Monday. @DOGE is the laziest, most overpaid bunch of incompetent, unelected bureaucrats we've ever seen.

Ok I think I'm done with @Shortwave. Anyone got suggestions for email apps that have bundles, date groups, and let you pin items out of those groups before archiving the rest? Happy to pay for a tool catered to normal people rather than teams (which will never succeed).

@felt So many great apps like @Shortwave and @felt make this mistake, gaining popularity as useful and user-focused, and then struggling to succeed long term as they pivot to enterprise. Eventually big boring boxes like Gmail or Tableau eclipse their feature set at a lower price-point.

Getting the feeling @felt chose the dark side, focusing just on big teams/enterprise, absurdly high pricing at entry level, and no longer caring about individual users or people who just want to make cool and useful maps. Even their curated map gallery has pages over data-limit.
