It’s important to me that the Labour Party backs a de-medicalised statutory process of self ID.
As a lesbian my rights as a woman are not in conflict with my rights as an LGBTQ+ person.
Women are also hindered by those who hinder LGBTQ movements.
Saw that lesbians was trending and then realised that it was a cesspit so here is me attempting to clean the trending lesbian tag with me, a lesbian, and these banging chips.
Dating someone who is non political is so refreshing till you mention that the WM mayoral elections are today and she responds with “awww is that going to affect the trains??”
I’m so unbelievably annoyed that uni managements across the country have let it get to a point where I’m missing 18 days of teaching this semester.
The demands from our uni staff are not unreasonable. This should have been sorted.

It’s moments like this that reminds me why I’m a member of the Labour Party and why I put so much effort into campaigning for a labour government. We desperately need one.
12.5 hours, 11 miles, 30,000 steps and a whole lot of leaflets down - I have finally stopped pestering the people of stoke to go and vote.
Incredibly proud of every
@SoTLabour
candidate who has stood - Let’s smash it tonight! 🌹❤️
I love how normal it is for students to not have working heating when the temperature is gonna get down to -6 today but if it was literally any other category of age group it would be seen as the worst thing on earth to happen.
But it’s fine and normalised bc we’re students!
I’ve been in MPs offices when they’ve been attacked by the public. It’s horrible, staff are just trying to do their job.
We should be able to work without the fear of our safety in the office, there shouldn’t be any debate about this fact?
On our way home a guy on the train asked if we’d been to Lab conference. He told us that he’d seen Starmer’s speech and that despite the fact he had always been a conservative. He was now sick of the tories and he welcomed a Labour government.
I cannot make this up.
I’m super excited to announce that I’ve decided to run to be the West Midlands Representative for Labour Students!
After a tragic loss of so many Labour seats across the region after 2019, the Labour Party is rebuilding & I believe students can be at the heart of this. [🧵 1/6]
When you
#AskHerToStand
, don’t ask her to stand because you need your gender quotas met. Ask her to stand because she deserves to be there, because she’s talented, driven, smart.
Super pleased to say that yesterday I was elected as
@LGBTLabour
’s New National Secretary.
I’m looking forward to working with our brilliant new committee this year, to be fighting for LGBT+ voices within our party and the UK.
#LGBTLab22
Super stoked to have the endorsement of
@jessphillips
MP for Birmingham Yardley and Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding.
I've always looked up to Jess as an incredible MP and has been someone that has inspired me to campaign for the party.
I finally took the time to listen to the Nolan investigates podcast episode about stonewall and I have some thoughts. [thread]
Firstly I did find the argument that if the BBC is an impartial body that it shouldn’t be taking advice from one body as interesting one.
Gave Keir a tour around my old sixth form today and honestly, I think you all need to give him a bit more credit. I genuinely believe that today he was listening to us before he starts making policies for people like us. I hope we see this reflected in the party going forward.
Incredibly proud to say that I’ve been elected to the National Labour Student Committee as the West Midlands Representative.
A massive thank you to everyone who’s given me your vote, I’m really looking forward to strengthening our student wing in the West Midlands. 💪🌹
It is a pleasure to have been elected as
@LGBTLabour
’s National Co-Chair today at our AGM.
I am proud of my achievements as Secretary this year, but I know we still have a way to go.
I have been committed to that fight this past year and will continue this as your Co-Chair.
4 years on from one of our first canvassing sessions together and I’m so immensely proud that it’s your face on these calling cards this time round.
Best of luck tomorrow, you’re gonna absolutely smash it

Lib Dem by-election machine this, Lib Dem by-election machine that - when are we gonna start talking about the by-election machine that is Yorkshire & Humber Region???
Today is International Lesbian Day
It took me a long time to accept who I was & I found it incredibly difficult to even say the word Lesbian for a number of years.
To anyone else who is figuring out who they are, I promise you - it gets easier. 🧡🤍💗
@georgsoup
i don't even like harry potter that much but i still watched all of this without having a clue what was going on just for the pretty outfits i-
Ministers have had twelve years to get levelling up right and all we had today was more slogans. No ideas, no energy, no ambition. If we’ve learnt one thing – for all the spin and the gloss – the Tories won’t deliver it. Labour will.
As part of LGBT History month I wanted to share some of my own family history. Beryl and Edna.
They never got to be open about their relationship when they were alive and the thought of that saddens me deeply. I want to share their story so they can finally be celebrated.
Currently sat in a local council meeting in Stoke whilst a Labour councillor talks about poverty related suicide whilst across the chamber another Tory councillor smirks and laughs whilst the rest of them sit there unbothered. What a shame.
The fight for Trans rights is not just a fight for part of our community, it’s a fight for the heart of our community.
As a lesbian my rights as a woman and my rights as an LGBT+ Person do not conflict each other.
We are stronger united than we are divided.
#LGBWithTheT

And finally a massive thank you to our secretary
@lilysoaper
for a fantastic speech,
“It is important to remember that this fight is not over and especially right now we need to stand united alongside our trans siblings.
There is no lgb without the t.”
He seemed to not have an understanding of what they were.
And arguably if you’re going to do a whole 45 minute podcast episode on LGBT issues I’d hope that you were going to at least have a basic understanding of what LGBT people are asking for.
Ngl as an LGBT person I feel like the Labour Party kinda just throw us the section 28 thing every time they say anything about the community and it’s getting old - do you not have anything new to celebrate with us
I was outed as a lesbian in school at 15 in the middle of class. I’ll never forget that feeling of dread, knowing that by the end of the school day everyone would know.

I’m thinking of those who didn’t and won’t have autonomy over their coming out.
If you think the closure of the museums in stoke are bad… wait till you find out how they’re treating the children’s services…

It was a pleasure to see Stoke-on-Trent's world-famous ceramics manufacturing today.
But the government's blanket withdrawal of the furlough scheme threatens jobs in the Potteries.
If hard-hit sectors like hospitality stop buying, jobs here suffer.
Brianna Ghey spent her last moments alive subjected to abhorrent violence and hate. Now she can’t even die with dignity.
We need GRA reform immediately.
My heart aches for her.
It was a pleasure to introduce
@AngelaRayner
to speak at
@LGBTLabour
’s LGBT+ History Month event last night.
I hope together we can continue to work together to fight for equal rights for LGBTQ+ people in the UK and abroad.
I also felt that the tone and language which was used to describe a charity that has done a lot of good work in progressing rights for lgbt people in the uk was being demonised and the tone become increasingly hostile towards them.
I think if being gay was a choice I don’t think the 14/15 year old girl inside of me would have cried when she realised she was a lesbian and couldn’t change that. This is is an extremely weird view to have, I did not choose to be a lesbian, I just am.
It almost felt like they were painting this picture that Stonewall has some damaging agenda. Whereas I firmly believe they’re only “agenda” they carry is one to prevent discrimination of LGBT people in the UK
I also felt as if stonewall and Benjamin Cohen were more
Have you seen?
@DrRosena
is now 2nd in the Labour Deputy Leadership race!
She's got my vote! She shows remarkable dedication to public service, whether on the A&E frontline or the political frontbench.
Spread the word!
There should be no official recognition of social transitioning for under-18s and single sex spaces should be protected in schools. The Government should issue guidance to schools urgently to make this clear.
I would urge you all to watch Thatcher's speech at Conservative Party Conference in regard to Section 28 so you can see how scarily close it is to today's Anti-Trans rhetoric.
I’m open about how I’m currently in therapy for medical trauma I experienced in my teenage years.
Not once was any of that caused by gender neutral language, or trans people sharing the same space. It was caused by doctors having a lack of understanding for women’s health. 1/2
@Conservatives
know what a woman is.
I know the vast majority of hardworking NHS staff and patients do too.
That is why I ordered a reversal of unacceptable changes to the NHS website that erased references to women for conditions such as cervical cancer.
#CPC2023
What has this man ever done for my city? Because even under a Tory government I can name you a long list of things the two previous Labour MPs did for us.
12 hours & 12 miles later, I’m finally on the way back home from
#erdington
- absolutely shattered but have had the best time campaigning for
@PauletteHamilto
- wishing her the best of luck and I’m going home to sleep for a very long time ❤️
To wrap my thoughts up
- i agree that bbc should not see Stonewall as “THE” experts. There should be a range of voices. However I fail to see another organisation that could provide the same amount of advice or has the experience to advise the bbc on workplace practices.
It was great to welcome
@Keir_Starmer
to the sixth form college today in Stoke. It was great to show him around the building and what amazing work the college does.
As an actual lesbian, I find this really offensive.
In their attempt to erase trans people they’re actively harming and harassing others in the community.
To those in our community who side with them, they’re not on our side. Never have been. Never will be.
So therefore stonewall are best placed to give this advice in order to keep LGBT people safe.
- finally, I worry that this podcast episode risks a narrative being built around the charity that they’re trying to push some form of agenda that’s damaging which
Highly criticised than Sam Smith or arguments from the LGB Alliance.
Which sits wrongly with me if you’re entire episode is arguing that the BBC is no longer balanced.
A woman asked me yesterday why Betty Boothroyd never married. Was she lesbian? I don't think so, I replied, she had lots of boyfriends & lovers over the years. But until I perused Paul Routledge's biography last night, I hadn't realised the full extent of her love life.
I joined the Labour Party back in 2019 because of Ruth. She truly is the best of our party and is one of the strongest women I know. Thank you for being such an inspiration ❤️🌹

speaking for the EHRC rule changes:
“If you believe in equality.
If you want the scourge of antisemitism to be removed from our party.
Then you must vote for these rule changes.”

If you’re a queer couple in Stoke-on-Trent and you want to have children via IVF you have to pay up to £9,600 before you’re eligible for free care. But if you’re a straight couple you can access it for free from the start.
