@jeremiahbcha studies #AmericanPolitics, with a focus on how political institutions and local contexts shape policy outcomes. His #JobMarketPaper details how descriptive racial representation results in nuanced policy effects in the context of city housing development.

January 6 worked partly because Republicans did not hold Trump accountable for his anti-democratic behavior. My research w/@kiarahernandezm and Lee shows this was because (white) Republicans are worried about the loss of white sociopolitical dominance.

White Power! How White Status Threat Undercuts Backlash Against Anti-democratic Politicians - Volume 10 Issue 1
The latest Chapo episode includes a really obvious argument that I think more people need to say out loud. January 6th worked. Any sort of assessment of the second Trump term, protest movements, and modern day norms should acknowledge that fact.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share some reflections—about courts and the institutional entrenchment of oligarchy, drawing lessons from state constitutionalism—in this great collection. Check out “Court Reform Can’t Be Limited to ‘Reforming Courts’”:

As progressives take on the urgent task of building resilient democratic institutions that will help secure shared prosperity, we would do well to learn from the efforts of past reformers—who paired...
NEW: Americans need a government that delivers stability and security—not chaos. Our new essay collection brings together great minds to imagine how democracy can better deliver the economy Americans need and want. https://t.co/iHL7XaVlOV

I'll be presenting at MPSA April 5 at 8:00 AM at the Palmer House Hilton, 3rd Floor in Marshfield 💡I find that the election of minorities to city councils results in less dense housing development. Using interviews, I develop a framework to understand diversity in local politics

i'm on the job market with a paper about political sorting in the labor market! it's perhaps harder to choose your coworkers than your friends or who you follow on twitter -- could the workplace be less segregated than other places where democrats and republicans tend not to mix?

NEW: In Cambridge, a graduate student is attempting something exceedingly rare in Massachusetts: a challenge against a Dem incumbent. Their pledge? To fight for a transparent government in a state known as one of the most opaque. w/@lauracrimaldi

MacKay’s challenge is highlighting a prime source of the dysfunction and complacency many observers see on Beacon Hill: the singular lack of competition for political office in Massachusetts.

New WP with @kiarahernandezm and @Taeku_Lee: https://t.co/ZckRiCEJAf. We leverage the J6 Insurrection to provide evidence white Republicans do not hold co-partisan politicians accountable for democratic norm violations because of their white racial grievances

The Whataburger app works as a power outage tracker, handy since the electric company doesn't show a map. Still nearly 1.9 million power outages.

Our campaign for a living wage launched seven months ago. Though the University refused to work with us, today Harvard University GSAS has announced it will raise the minimum compensation package for all PhD programs to $50K.
It only took 10 days for more than 1,200 student workers to sign our petition demanding a fair raise. We made sure Harvard heard us on Wednesday at our rally for a living wage. @Harvard - we'll be back.

Enough people will refuse to vote for Democrats like Fetterman even though that means Republicans will win. This is simply too revolting. No sort of lesser of two evils rationalization will compel people to support Dems like this.
