🚨NEW PAPER 🚨 Are police more right-wing and biased against marginalized groups than the general public? If so, why? My new article in @PNASNews w/ Reny, Newman, and Sears provides some answers. 🧵1/n

Excited to see our paper “Race, Responsiveness, and Representation in U.S. Lawmaking” online in the @apsrjournal. We investigate representation in the US Congress and show large racial disparities in responsiveness depending on government control.

NEW: @propublica investigates the Chicago raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours: - NONE of the arrested were criminally charged; - NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists." - ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

New: Agents rappelled from a Black Hawk helicopter in a massive show of force. Authorities said Tren de Aragua “terrorists” had taken over the building. But after the cameras were gone, federal prosecutors did not charge anyone.

Our new @apsrjournal is out! We study whether policy and congresspeople are more responsive to White Americans than racial minorities, matching individual level opinion to policy outcomes and roll call votes on 134 issues using 500K survey responses from 2016-2022. 1/n

Those new, young, nonwhite Trump voters really thought he'd fix the economy. And they're pissed that he hasn't https://t.co/YqopGLiVA1

Ipsos finds Trump’s approval rating is decreasing almost entirely because of anti-incumbent economic anxiety. Approval rating among people who say the economy is the # 1 issue is -24pts since Jan. It’s stable for people who index on all other issues https://t.co/y2wDM9XMf5

Democratic gains in this week's elections erased the inroads Trump made with non-white, young, and low-income voters in 2024. In fact, the R-to-D shift from 24 to 25 is double Trump's gains from 2020-24. Claims of a Trump-powered realignment have been highly exaggerated

Zohran winning Black voters… is just absolutely fantastic and shatters the establishment narrative that progressives are only appealing to affluent white voters. I’ll bet you the age breakdown is even better.

Plurality-Hispanic Manassas was emblematic of Dems' problems in NoVa in 2024, when it swung 9 points right. Now, Spanberger is blowing past *Biden's* margin.

Excellent @leedrutman on how it is nearly impossible for moderation to matter much when electoral outcomes are almost perfectly polarized along one dimension - why we need to move toward a multi-party system https://t.co/BneSMtHusp

Given the rise of cheap survey data and quant poli sci 101, a naive brand of political analysis/party strategy I see all the time now is to assume that voters make their decisions only because of the policies parties support. This is wrong and I call it The Strategist's Fallacy

A new report into why Democrats lost in 2024 arrives at its answer in part by pretending that popular GOP talking points about the party were official Dem policy proposals last year. And it does not grapple with how the GOP escaped consequences for its real, unpopular agenda
