Way too much overlap between Cap and Shang-Chi. If one of them doesn’t become at least a 35% shooter, it’s going to clog the paint up and curb Cap’s development curve.

I fuck around on this site a lot, but on a really earnest note I just had a really big-time constitutional law professor email me out of the blue to say he's a fan of my work. I'm very stoked about that.
I'll be chatting with Damian Fagon, the Chief Equity Officer of

I've got a long list of questions, but what do you all want to know? What should I ask?
Cannabis companies pay an extra $1.8 billion in tax compared to similar size companies.
But why is that? Well, it's dates back to a 1970s drug dealer.
Read the whole story in yesterday's

Is it really that shocking that a drug enforcement agency would have trouble wrapping their heads around a process that calls for less drug enforcement?

-The facility will close by July 31
-All employees terminated by July 31
-All employees will be inactive by July 1 but still receive salary + benefits until the 31
Real human lives are on the line as we all meme about what’s happening with the submersible, and I find that abhorrent, regardless of how you feel about billionaires etc.
At the same time, I gotta hand it to this guy, this is a brilliant joke
Bad news and good news.
@Citibank
just closed my personal bank accounts and all my Citi credit cards including my Costco Mastercard 😤 after having me as a Citigold client for the last 25 years. They said they think I may be involved in cannabis. The good news is that
@Citibank
I get the hand-wringing about edibles looking like sour patch kids but most legal edibles are kumquat-lemongrass flavored and the packages are so hard to open I need to use tools, so I can’t imagine 6 year olds getting into them.
california just might ban weed gummies and other cannabis products that don't look like absolute dog shit because of what sure looks like a manufactured moral panic
Cannabis companies paid an extra $1.8 billion in taxes compared to normal companies last year.
That's according to a new report from
@Whitney_Econ
.
So why do they have to pay so much extra tax?
Yup. The DOJ will absolutely need to clarify this with another Cole-like Memo. There's a healthy concern that Sched III means all cannabis would have to be prescribed, though a lot of experts say it's unlikely, it's not impossible.

S3 rulemaking process is imminent, but pages 85-87 of this NPRM are…not great to see in print (although obviously the law today). Gonna need that Cole Memo 3.0 stat…

Gotta say, while we may still disagree on certain points, he's been a class act about how to have a productive exchange of ideas.
Here’s the Office of Legal Council Opinion on rescheduling:
Neither the UN’s Single Convention nor the Controlled Substances Act require marijuana to be placed in Schedule I or II, per the opinion.
“Schedule III, even when final, will not lead the New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq to list U.S. plant-touching companies. Those companies will continue to be violating the Controlled Substance Act,” Eric Berlin, a partner at the legal firm Dentons told Green Market Report.
Is it really that shocking that a drug enforcement agency would have trouble wrapping their heads around a process that calls for less drug enforcement?
The DEA’s proposed rule to move cannabis to Schedule III has been posted to the federal register.

Seems like there is a media narrative problem from within Gaza then? Why do so many still believe that civilians weren’t intentionally targeted on October 7?
The fact that the attorney general's signature not the head of the DEA's is more of a "media narrative" than a crucial point in the rescheduling process.
"It's a media strategy, not a legal argument," Jesse Alderman of Foley Hoag said on the

It’s interesting to see the Biden admin go full court press on cannabis reform, but “no one should be in jail” is about the most basic vision of reform possible.
Oral arguments lawsuit filed by David Boies on behalf of a group of cannabis firms challenging the legitimacy of federal cannabis prohibition will be heard in a Massachusetts federal court tomorrow.

My last contribution to the RFK Jr/antivax discourse: Most of these venture and hedge fund guys aren't actually antivax. They probably got the covid shot.
They just want Biden to lose without supporting Trump/DeSantis outright so they can pay less taxes. That's all this is.

Too many lives have been upended because of our failed approach to marijuana.
So today, the
@TheJusticeDept
is taking the next step to reclassify marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule III drug under federal law.
Here's what that means:
We’re in the Moscow courtroom where Evan Gershkovich is appealing the extension of his pre-trial detention. It’s 12 weeks since the Wall Street Journal reporter was arrested in Russia and charged with espionage. He & his employer vehemently deny the charge.
Our ultimate goal is federal legalization, and we see Schedule III as a necessary and critical step along the way. We will submit comments in the coming days in support of the proposed rule.
At its peak in early 2021, Canopy’s market value topped $25-billion. With its close at $1.14 per share Friday, the company is worth about $600-million.

That was fast. New House version of the Farm Bill doesn't split the hemp definition into two anymore. Previously it distinguished between industrial hemp and hemp for cannabinoid production.

I think cannabis policy frameworks suffer from thinking that the burden of proof is on showing why it should be legal.
We should flip that: Why should it still be illegal? What quantifiable social justice, economic, public health impacts does continued prohibition help?

Would respectfully push back on this. My own sentiment would be to pass broader reform of course, but the political calculus of banking right now means that every additional equity piece jeopardizes R votes. Pragmatism doesn’t always align with morality, especially in DC.
More Americans are smoking cannabis daily than drinking, per a new study.
But the fear-mongering headlines the study generated are the result of flawed analysis, I write in today's

It's no secret that Canopy Growth has had a difficult year.
The company lost about $3.3 billion on $403 million in revenue.
It also fully divested from its Canadian retail operations and laid off 800 workers, amid more cost-cutting measures under CEO David Klein.
