@implausibleblog Rory Stewart: "People like me have screwed up! Every idea about how to run the country for at least the past 60 years has been rubbish. We have taken a hard-working, productive, cohesive country & ploughed it into the ground. The only thing that can save us is my wet liberalism."

@implausibleblog When the cost of living isn’t covered by wages then working your arse off to make other people rich becomes less appealing.

@implausibleblog Well maybe just maybe Brexit and 14yrs of Tory shittery has something to do with that!

@implausibleblog .@RoryStewartUK, people DO know why it’s happening, as BBC’s @jim_reed explains below: “Almost every expert out there thinks <Long Covid> is now a very important factor in explaining why we’ve seen this rise over the past 4-5 years in people who are off work long-term sick”.
RISE IN PEOPLE NOT WORKING DUE TO LONG-TERM ILLNESS When I did this very simple number crunching, it was a huge lightbulb moment for me!💡 It’s suddenly pretty obvious why there’s been such a stratospheric rise in people dropping out of the workforce due to long-term illness…

@implausibleblog Also a significant number on benefits are already working but their wages are so poor they need financial assistance. Employers need to pay a living wage!

@implausibleblog The biggest single source of long term sickness absence from work sis mental ill health-we don’t have the mental health resources for early diagnosis & treatment in contrast to most of Europe

@implausibleblog Nobody has a clue why it’s happening because we don’t face up to unpleasant truths in this country. We are probably complete outliers in Europe in lots of ways because we are rooted in the past. Everything is related to WW2 and The Beatles and how good life (maybe) was in 1960s.

@implausibleblog Brexshit, austerity, Covid, Tories and the establishment milking the system? Loaded system for the rich!🤬😡👇 https://t.co/NmXojhZ1aJ
A reminder that the Royal Family claim £500,000,000 a year in benefits even though they have £22bn. While 650 MP's get an extra £150,000,000 in benefits a year on top of their £94,500 salaries. If we are cracking down on benefits, start here.

@implausibleblog "9.2 million people are not keen to re enter the workforce" They shouldn't be given a choice. Work, starve, or rely on family to provide for you. This is how it is in the majority of the world today.

@implausibleblog He speaks the truth… we have developed a low wage economy while all profits go to the top… people are rejecting it in their droves…

@implausibleblog Over 5m of that 9.2m are in education, early retirees & stay at home parents. One of the reasons people on disability etc. gravitate to places like Blackpool is that there's an abundance of properties for rent at under the Local Housing Allowance so all the rent's covered by UC.

@implausibleblog Nobody has a clue..."...well maybe that's your clue. Total cluelessness at the top. Nobody who'll admit Brexit was self harm, that letting 250k die in a year and being first to open prob not good, who'll admit how broken the NHS is, how smashing public services means fewer jobs..

@implausibleblog Tories made huge cuts to the social and health support networks, but needs don’t change or go away, so now more expensive services have to pick up problems once they’ve become crises. The lack of them creates more crises and it’s snowballed. It’s not just money, it’s people.

@implausibleblog How many of those are carers, on a gap year, raising young children, unable to work for health reasons? Is there a split of figures somewhere?

@implausibleblog Could it be that people are literally sick & tired from working hard week after week, only to watch highly-paid politicians & bureaucrats pissing tax money away on useless PPE, failing to protect this country against ridiculous price rises, failing to protect our energy market

@implausibleblog Rees-Mogg looks like he'd like to leap across the table and stab his fellow conservative in the eye with a sharp pencil for giving the game away.

@implausibleblog Very true...I was making more in Canada as a Sales Executive than I did when I moved to the UK to be the Head of UK sales for the same company. (Adjusted for cost of living which is much higher in the UK)

@implausibleblog Pre covid/Brexit thanks to FOM people could move to where the jobs and best pay were ie EU (27 countries +). Now on our isolated island the career choice has shrunk and may not be able to offer the work life balance and benefits that many EU countries offered.

@implausibleblog Inequality like never before, stigmatisation of the poor and disabled creating a worthless generation, lack of public investment in housing, community and facilities for young people. Zero hour jobs, menial low paid work, exploitation . Poor education system

@implausibleblog "Nobody has a clue of why it's happening" 🤔 Except for the near complete absence of COVID mitigations, condemning us to an eternity of repeat infections The massive NHS backlog preventing people accessing treatment and a broken care system staffed largely by family and friends

@implausibleblog @GrimRea75836714 Many saying people should be forced to work and benefits system is too generous. Most people have a genuine reason for being unable to work, but for those who might need an incentive, wouldn’t it be better not to treat people as just another commodity? I couldn’t wait to retire.

@implausibleblog The 1.5- 2 million who can’t work with neglected, disabling chronic illnesses ME, LC, FM, EDS & POTS, lack treatments because of grossly inadequate state investment in research. We say everywhere we are desperate to be more functionalal & work & pleading for research investment.

@implausibleblog Of course we know why it’s happening! They have much better health systems across the EU. We have the NHS.
