An area the size of Paris already aflame, countless ancient villages and towns engulfed or endangered, some of the oldest landscape and vineyards in France being lost. This is the worst I've ever seen in that area, perilously close to entering Perpignan too.

Images terribles d'une vraie catastrophe: l'incendie qui dévore le massif des Corbières entre Toulouse et Carcassonne a déjà détruit plus de 13 000 hectares en moins de 24 heures.

As another US billionaire, Bezos, fires 3000 satellites into space to join Musk's 40,000 in the space land grab, they're turning it into the next human landfill site. Just one stray piece of debris could make space unusable.

There’s way too much space junk floating around Earth and it’s already making space travel a lot more dangerous.

The 'ballon gigante' was located in the Tuileries, very close to where the Olympic Torch balloon is today. It was held by strong guide ropes and released by steam powered winches to heights of 500-600m over the Paris rooftops 12 times a day.

A view of Giffard's giant balloon held high over Paris - rather higher than the Olympic Torch balloon - allowing most of its passengers the first aerial view they will ever have seen of the city.

A huge captive hot air balloon is such a magically wonderful symbol for the Paris Olympic flame - a nod to France's illustrious ballooning history, and specifically Henri Giffard's 1878 'biggest ever balloon' which carried passengers high in the Paris sky.
