There have been numerous posts on social media from parents aghast at the revolving door of school and nursery acquired illness. Sometimes there’ll be a parent posting who has children with a wide age gap saying it’s worse now. 🧵

“When you have a disability people can’t see,” Joy says of her daughter, “you don’t get as much empathy.” The long Covid numbers are enormous, rivaling conditions like ADHD and autism as one of the most common chronic diseases in American youth today. 🔗 https://t.co/q0QjHOh9Bq

Over FIVE years on and @UKHSA STILL isn’t actively researching paediatric Long Covid. There are 96 studies on how Covid damages just their brains, let alone the countless other studies on how it causes damage elsewhere! So, what’s the plan? Ignore it and hope it goes away?!

@UKHSA @educationgovuk Q- What is UKHSA doing to build the evidence base on paediatric Long Covid now, 5 years after the onset of the virus? A - “It's more in the realm of clinical research and with NHS" "I am not aware we are doing any active research but will review evidence"

Somebody get me the smelling salts! She mentioned the word “airborne” AND said it would make sense to address it.

Dr Arora - on whether plans to make schools safer should prioritise airborne transmission “yes it would certainly make sense to start prioritising” airborne transmission

I did an FOI request to UKHSA requesting the research underpinning their guidance that children shouldn’t be tested for SARS-CoV-2, and that they only need to isolate for 3 days following a positive test. They responded. Let’s have a look at their response and the guidance:

@teppichhai They just want Covid to be the same as ‘seasonal winter viruses’ but don’t have anything to back that up. ‘Most recover’ has no basis in reality when it comes to long Covid&we also have the cumulative effect of infections. The temperature thing was always nonsense.

"Do you take responsibility for..." Boris Johnson appears to be channeling a contrite school boy. He accepts that he is responsible. Now, he must account for his actions. #CovidInquiry

I've written an open letter to the Education Secretary. School attendance is often in the news. But politicians simply don't want to talk about illness, the biggest cause of absence for pupils & teachers. It's absurd. "Please Can We Talk About Health?" https://t.co/LFKEA2SYLV

@ABrokenBattery @tessamunt This also raises a wider issue, whereby baseless and ignorant opinions are wielded with little accountability. HCW can not and should not dismiss conditions that they arbitrarily decide not to believe in.

A small number of children were under health advice. NB/ CVF found that doctors were generally unwilling to go against overall government advice to support individual shielding. Headteachers told to talk to "anxious" families. 13/

Just over a month into school. Nits, chickenpox, conjunctivitis, vomiting, diarrhoea, heavy “colds”, excessive tiredness, appetite loss, hand foot and mouth, fever. That’s just what I know of in classes. What % of kids are not learning due to illness - whether in school or off?

A poor response. The existence, known prevalence and some of the ways it presented could and should have been shared.

@UKHSA @educationgovuk Q - The question is a simple one - should the existence have been shared with teachers and schools? A - There was general understanding that LC was a phenomenon - but we didn't have detail "we didn't have a good understanding of it even in 2021, and today it's a complex area"

@KemiBadenoch Seriously?!! Person wonders why a virus known to cause long term health issues has caused long term health issues. The wave we are in right now will also cause long term health issues, so get ready to be surprised again in a few months.

@1goodtern In Sweden the Public Health Agency explains this with doctors being overly cautious & admitting the little ones quicker to hospital than other age groups. And that’s why those numbers should not alarm anyone, they say. 🙄 Well, I find them alarming anyway.

New Results A gene on the X chromosome, Kdm6a, drives brain inflammation. Deleting it in mice reduced MS-like disease and Alzheimer’s-type pathology, but only in females. It may explain why women carry higher risk for MS and dementia, and why menopause unmasks inflammation.

I didn't see this in any headlines? They said that they KNEW children and adults would be harmed long term by c0vid. The government CHOSE and SANCTIONED long term illness, with no known cure, for an unspecified number of people. They are STILL CHOOSING THIS.
