“If you have good competition policy, education and flexicurity – then you can make the best use of AI.” AI has enormous growth and employment creation potential, says economic sciences laureate Philippe Aghion. But in order to harness the full potential of AI, certain

✅ Flexicurity. Odolná společnost, spokojenost a víc peněz. 👀 Slovo “flexicurity” budeme všichni slýchat častěji, znamená snahu skloubit potřeby zaměstnavatelů i zaměstnanců na současném trhu práce. ✔️ Proč je to win-win řešení? ✔️ A proč i cesta k vyšším mzdám? V novém osobním

Moving from existing labour market regulation to something akin to Danish “flexicurity” seems like the five trillion-dollar question for Europe. Has anyone seen a good example of a country doing it under similar political constraints to the ones that European states face now?

#RepublikavPohybu
🚀 Máme radost – Senát právě schválil tzv. flexinovelu zákoníku práce. ✅ Po letech neúnavného prosazování konceptu flexicurity od dob covidu se nám Pirátům podařilo prosadit tuto klíčovou změnu do novely zákoníku práce! Flexicurity byla naše podmínka, která kompenzuje kratší

Was die Dänen 🇩🇰 besser machen?

✍🏻 «Denmark, with flexible rules about hiring and firing, a model known as #flexicurity, is one of the few European nations that approaches America's GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power, and it has one of the highest levels of employment» @s8mb

@MarkP21 @Destiny_Chiild This is just one example, of course. American socialists would react with shock and horror to the Danish flexicurity system. And Denmark's light-touch regulation of business is exactly the opposite of what American socialists want to do.

Curious article. I thought flexicurity referred to security and flexibility, and typically used to talk about the approach in Denmark (lots of income protection but a dynamic labour market). But UK workers don't get the security.
“The current “flexicurity” model is fundamentally flawed… and our research highlights three weaknesses in particular” @KirstenSehn writes about the key issues with employers' reliance on flexible contracts #LSEInequalitiesBlog

that said, unions need reform. It isn't the 1950s anymore the best models blend worker protections w flexibility: joint training programs, involvement in tech adoption, perf incentives alongside job security Germany's co-determination and Nordic "flexicurity" show it's possible

Spot on about things Britain could learn from Denmark but flexicurity succeeds in part, I understand, due to v strong culture of collective bargaining and trust between unions and employers in negotiating terms.
Labour is looking to Denmark for migration policy - but it shouldn't stop there. They look at Danish labour market policy too - the Danes have one of the least regulated labour markets in the developed world. It's called 'flexicurity'. There's no legal minimum wage. No

Juustohöylä on pitänyt Suomen talouden kasvun kurissa pari viime vuosikymmentä. Flexicurity-malli on osoittautunut "Sammoksi" jonka Väinämöinen hukkasi.
Suomessa on liian suuri julkinen sektori, liikaa velkaa valtiontaloudessa ja kuntataloudessa, liian korkea verotus, vanheneva ja kutistuva väestö, pienet kotimarkkinat, varallisuudeltaan köyhä kansakunta, … ja heikko kotimainen ostovoima.

Interesting. Essentially moving to a kind of Nordic system. Much more liberal labour markets but greater contributory welfare. Something like flexicurity.

This selective picture of Danish “flexicurity” paints Scandi social democracy as a market-liberal free-for-all. In fact, while hire & fire is relatively cheap/simple — in comparison with, say, much of S. Europe — Danish labour relations are underpinned by nationwide sectoral

Great piece that reckons with the utter failure in the US to assist dislocated workers. This isn't intractable. Models like flexicurity in Denmark do an excellent job of maintaining a dynamic economy with robust support for workers. AI, trade, climate--we need to do better.
The biggest economic issue that no one is talking about: AI is projected to replace 12 million jobs in the next decade. Americans say they're worried about it. But no national politician has a plan for it. A new piece with some ideas, from me, Zoe Jacobs, and Diego Haro. 1/

Agenda 2010 in Germany by Schröder was the last attempt of the german center-left to move to a more flexible Danish style welfare state, more flexicurity, pension system with capitalization. but the pension reforms were half done and the labor market reforms got undone over time

Worthwhile reading! I wrote my high-school on labor market institutions (an analysis of Macron's labor market reforms, with a comparison to Danish Flexicurity reforms and German Hartz reforms) - a topic where much is still to be learned.
Highly relevant! "Eurosclerosis at 40: Labor Market Institutions, Dynamism, and European Competitiveness" by Benjamin Schoefer. "This paper repositions Europe’s labor market institutions as drivers of the transatlantic gap in macroeconomic performance." https://t.co/KqxntC1pPI
