1/2 The 'uglification' of Metro Vancouver quickens with mass upzoning Unlike decades ago, politicians are asking tower developers for less green space & fewer community amenities. Residents lose, and prices still don’t go down. My latest #vanpoli #vanre https://t.co/1oMIzJlOVG

I see there’s lot of controversy brewing on the Broadway plan. I’ll go ahead and say it, the plan sucks.

Now that political dust has settled-sort of-can we talk about "supply and demand" for housing? Vancouver tripled housing units/supply since 1970. All of it "infill". No other center city comes close. This level of new supply should have led to lower prices. Nope. Highest in NA.

The missing middle affordability math... You could have bought the entire original house for $2,680,000 in 2019 Now you can buy the new half duplex for $3,498,000 (and have the fun dealing with your co-neighbour) 2455/2453 W 10TH AVE, Vancouver 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

We don't need any more immigrants in tech, every dev job that is posted is getting more than a 1,000 applicants each! Local kids trying to break into the industry stand no chance.

In Vancouver under the Broadway Plan, one tower in Application process at 1st & Yew, 38 trees from public property, & 19 trees from private, to be destroyed,&replaced with 8 trees. How is that progress? Definitely going in wrong direction here. #towers

The Province’s one-size fits all housing order demands an overwhelming focus on studio/one bedroom units which it defines as 470 sqft & is already being cited by developers who’ve disliked our efforts to see family-friendly, livable homes.

Referral report 110 W 4th Avenue: "staff have evaluated views from several locations within the park and determined the broader views do not appear to be significantly affected". Fast forward to today. #vanpoli

Perhaps this explains why we couldn’t have green landscaping instead of hard paving for the Art Gallery Plaza, and why the old plaza with its fountain and grass had to be redone.

Question, why is the Vancouver Art Gallery plaza being used as a parking lot?????!?

In April 2022, PM @JustinTrudeau's government removed the automatic shutoff for temporary foreign worker approvals when unemployment hit 6%. Just in case you're wondering why the govt is still approving TFW permits even as unemployment rate climbs to 6.4%. #cdnpoli #tfwp

Like this really isn't hard, folks. Rents are up because we added a million renters to the population last year through migration coupled with increased costs for landlords (interest, property tax, etc.)

This is pretty fucked up. The objective of political protest in public spaces is to get the attention of policymakers. What’s the objective of marching down an out-of-the way residential street with a high concentration of Jewish people? Because it looks like intimidation.

Breaking down the Fake Chinese Income mortgage story with Steele and Vance, in Vancouver there is no question for me, foreign underground banking made this market absurdly unaffordable and evidence is Canadian banks support that illicit model

Tell me again how it’s the lack of supply that’s the root cause of the housing crisis….? 🤪

Wow. Kind of speaks for itself, doesn't it? Somewhere in the late 1990s, everything changes.

This display of political theatre at the expense of disabled kids + their families is horrible. Where were all these speakers when ABC excluded wheelchair users from the Stanley Park train? We have SEGREGATED classrooms in Vancouver, where is the rage? 1/5 #vanpoli

Rideshare supply is steady. But demand has changed drastically, making prices unaffordable to most. Same thing happened to the housing market over the last couple of decades.

Insane #Uber and #Lyft prices in Metro Vancouver this morning due to surge pricing during the #TransLink bus and SeaBus strike. Ridehailing fares are roughly at least 3x higher than normal. #vanpoli #vanre https://t.co/j3AwQenemS

While I enjoy much of Mike’s research, I strongly disagree with his argument that condos are affordable and non-condos are luxury housing His argument may hold for 1-2 person households, but it does not hold for families 🧵⤵️
