The Health Secretary is responsible for the delivery of care within the NHS. Despite record waiting lists, Anaesthetics training numbers are down [2025 = 539 places]. The trend started before IA. Who is to blame?

We can deliver on jobs, training places and conditions for resident doctors. Our ability to do so will be hamstrung by unnecessary and irresponsible strike action. My message to the BMA is simple: call off the strikes, come back to the table and improve doctors’ lives.

@AoAA_uk @lengreview Completely limited use. There is no further career development, as you will never be independent. I will do my upmost best to get this project scrapped. My apologies in advance.

It's always weird to see these bizarre claims that the committee is "hard left" or "corbynistas". This is a wave of young people aged typically between 23-35 who see Broken Britain for what it is. Raising rent, raising house prices, raising energy prices, raising leisure

Though the BMA’s leaders are Corbynites, its members just want the pay and treatment they feel they deserve

The simpler the message the easier the sell Want to avoid the strikes @wesstreeting ? Then pay resident doctors more than their assistants! What could be simpler than that? 🦀 🦀

@DrHWazir I've had to look up 5 of these people. Why do they think their opinions are relevant? Sod off, and come back when you've got the £100k of debt, job insecurity and 20% real terms pay cut that your inaction brought us.

When there are few options available due to unnecessarily low training numbers, then it’s not a choice.

Genuinly flabbergasted by this choice of wording & @gmcuk could possibly think "with more doctors than ever before choosing locally employed (LE) roles" Please can @drcolinm or GMC confirm that this was a social media faux pas, and you actually know its not a "choice" per 👇

@gmcuk “…with more doctors than ever before choosing locally employed (LE) roles” When there are ~29k applicants for ~9k core training posts, doctors are not *choosing* LE roles They have no other option

In 2007, a "toolkit" was made in collaboration with the RCoA and DoH for departments to use. It made clear patients can decline care by an Anaesthetic Practioner (AP), the previous title for AA without detriment to their care. It was this document used to apply for regulation

Important advice for all NHS patients - just read this screenshot from a medical law specialist. Know your rights when you’re sent to see a Physician’s Associate instead of a Doctor.

These competition ratios are insane. This is not “healthy competition”, this is forcing extremely bright (and expensive) talent out of the UK to countries where they are valued #braindrain #workforceplanning

Top-Down & Bottom-Up Mechanisms of Anaesthesia If you give propofol quickly, your EEG looks VERY different to a slow infusion (very slow). Why does this happen and what brain effects does it represent? It's because the way they cause unconsciousness are different! 1/9

Today the @AoMRC - supposedly the defender of the once world-leading standards of UK medicine - claimed that doctors' concerns over the use of PAs was “almost devoid of factual information”. Is this factual enough for you?

@AoMRC @wesstreeting @NHSEngland I see. What a convenient way to undermine & silence doctors expressing safety concerns. Simply insinuate that they're trading in nothing more than hearsay - despite multiple official surveys (eg from @RCPhysicians) in which doctors have reported precisely these concerns. 3/n
