WWE Raw is coming to Netflix!
Starting in January 2025,
@Netflix
will exclusively stream
#WWERaw
(in the US, Canada, UK, & Latin America) every single week, all year long!
because it is LITERALLY NOT SOMETHING I HAVE CONTROL OVER as i have said many times. the coding of the website assigns genres to ARTISTS, not to releases. if they changed it to country it would change every beyonce relese to country. please put this energy toward a real problem
i swear to god we could have universal healthcare by now if you guys put this amount of effort into actual problems instead of bullying anyone who doesn't say the right thing about your billionaire cult leader
so much writing these days is just reacting to things on the internet and its dreadful. i would really encourage my fellow writers to spend less time looking at the internet. or at the very least use the internet as a gateway, don't make it the whole of your work
it was fun at first but i’m bored of reading the same internet cultural criticism essays over and over about girlhood/girl dinner/coquette/alienation/individualism/tiktok trends that will be gauche to do discourse about in a week. say something new and interesting please!
reposting this... here is a folder of almost every feature film directed by alan rudolph, who is for my money the greatest living american filmmaker (also included an interview with him & essay he wrote for film comment)
"[Robert Altman] is a fucking pothead... a lot of people think that Warren Beatty was actually kind of the co-director on that movie."
Quentin Tarantino on what he hates about 'McCabe & Mrs. Miller':
my disdain is not for beyonce my disdain is for all of you marks who think that you are on a mission from god just because you listen to one of the most popular artists in the world
@FakeNadine
Ahh and there we have it. Your true disdain from Beyonce right there out in the open. Of course we could tell from the review but didnt expect you to lay it out so plainly.
cinephiles are so funny, like they really think that Cinema is the peak of all art forms to the point that when something that's not a movie is really exceptionally good they will claim it as Cinema. like what if gamers started calling movies that they really like "games"
at this point what do you even gain from working with kanye. like he's just gonna force-feed you banana pudding & make you watch cuckold porn while he explains the great replacement theory. best case scenario you get a half-assed verse where he rhymes "seth rogen" & "joe rogan"
none of my editors or superiors have control over this either lol. like i don't think conde nast is really wanting to throw money pitchfork's way to rehaul the entire website CMS based on everything that has happened lately
Ashley Massaro recently died. Her affadavit when she sued WWE includes her being encouraged by Vince McMahon not to report that she was drugged and raped by US military staff while on tour in Kuwait. Content warning - this is sickening reading. (1/2)
the fact that people still talk about pitchfork reviews from like 20 years ago is honestly a testament to the site... nobody is really talking about like rolling stone or nme reviews from 20 years ago
thinking about one of the proudest moments in my career writing for pitchfork: when the sadboys subreddit anointed me the "Numba 1 Critic In The Whole Industry" because i wrote so many positive reviews of drain gang & sbe releases
very tired of the narrative around "pitchfork started covering pop music too much." please look at the reviews section and explain to me how most of those artists are pop music
really astonished at the amount of people who cannot tell this was a joke. however "she'll be comin around the mountain" does go harder than "fast car"
@erikmbaker
yeah i feel like a lot of people are revealing themselves as never having actually dealt with someone going through an intense manic episode and not being at all in control of their thoughts or actions
it's 4am and i just sent an angry email i have been sitting on for over a year to my former trans therapist who came out as detrans & became an awful ~gender-critical~ grifter. feels good!
eventually we all realize that the hulkster is the greatest professional wrestler of all time. no one else has more perfectly embodied professional wrestling
The Iron Claw captures the tragedy of the von erich family, but when it comes to their actual wrestling, nothing beats the intensity of the real thing. for
@texasmonthly
, i wrote a guide to 4 of the von erich's most essential matches, from texas to tokyo:
so Dua Lipa of all people has this little feminist newsletter publication that she runs and i wrote a little guide to women's wrestling for their november issue. a little 101 but it's worth it if i get dua lipa to watch a megumi kudo or aja kong match
jpegmafia publicly complaining on twitter to try and get a job with a washed-up right-wing guy is so wrestler-coded... like he's fr working an angle. bro been watching too much aew
excited to make my debut at
@thenation
with a review of the recent vince mcmahon biography Ringmaster, which claims to see through wwe's propaganda but plays right into it, & what people get wrong about wrestling's politics
WWE sources have concurred that the decision to go with The Rock vs. Roman Reigns Mania weekend, expected to be officially announced this Thursday, was a push by The Rock to move into the Mania main event, backed by top TKO Group Holding execs.
- PWInsider
there have been public allegations against vince mcmahon for over 30 years. you have been living under a rock if you are a wrestling fan and you don't know that
saying this while you have all that influence on tv (falling ratings and attendance) 😭😭😭 AND you avoided being promoted for the head to head with NXT until the last minute 😭😭😭
the nerd in me is starting to get annoyed by all these tweets that are like "the iron claw is virgin suicides for boys," because the von erichs were very decidedly for the girls...
in the wake of all the recent layoffs i felt like i needed to write something from the heart about the impact pitchfork has had on my career personally. so for my fader column this week i explore how p4k's rap coverage evolved over the years
So many people upset that WWE went with one of the biggest superstars - not wrestling superstars, overall superstars - on the planet for WrestleMania. This match is going to get the most mainstream exposure in history. And Cody will finish the story at some point.
beyonce stans have been screaming at me for the past 24 hours and even EMAILING me because the review of her new track is listed as "pop/r&b" and not "country" which frankly i find to be very silly. she did not even explicitly say this was a country album lol
"Wrestling Media" totally unequipped to actually deal with the vince lawsuits on every single level and in so many cases end up stooging to his benefit
fun little thing, i'm gonna be on dallas cbs local news today to talk about the iron claw & the legacy of the von erichs in north texas.... stay tuned for the link!!!

blood is an essential formal element of wrestling akin to light in cinema and if you can't appreciate blood then you don't appreciate professional wrestling. when there's no blading it fundamentally changes the art form
i don't really think punk is a "hypocrite" for going to wwe. he got worked into thinking wrestling could be different. then he realized the "alternative" was just as rotten and reckless and uncaring, maybe even more so in some ways. devil you know versus devil you don't.
a lot of handwringing on here lately about how "music journalism is dying and they only let you cover pop music now" just feels like a skill issue. maybe you should take the time you spend complaining about taylor swift and use it to discover underground music
what happened to just calling annoying things annoying, why does it have to come with an armchair diagnosis. unironically using the phrase "anti-social tendencies" just makes u sound like officer krupke
I know we've just totally lost the war on this, but I still think playing music, a video or having a conversation on speaker phone for more than like a hot second, in an enclosed public space is a huge sign of anti-social tendencies.
in madusa's memoir she writes about an affair she had with a wrestler who angled to have the wwf women's division scrapped to get rid of her, and who has also threatened her with legal action if she ever disclosed his name. i have a pretty good feeling this was nash
feeling really bad for musicians and music publicists too. this hurts all of us at every level in this ecosystem. so many of our jobs changed fundamentally today
unless you've seen like 30 seasons of survivor, 20 seasons of this old house, every episode of the dick van dyke show, all the bravo franchises ever, & a bunch of teen shows, then i don't care what you have to say about the medium of television. you are not about that life
there's been lots of chatter abt the
@DatPiff
database coming to
@internetarchive
, so for my
@thefader
column this week i went to the library. here are 5 essential mixtapes you won't find on streaming, from boosie's zydeco moment to FLY's beach boys flip
“I want to do the gayest fucking thing you’ve ever seen in your life,” Kristen Stewart says in Rolling Stone’s new cover story.
“If I could grow a little mustache, if I could grow a fucking happy trail and unbutton my pants, I would.”
Read:
"pivoting to social media" is gonna be another fucking bubble just like video was because these braindead executives are buying into a fantastical monorail from tech companies who make up all the numbers. so bleak
Vice CEO Bruce Dixon announces that they’ll no longer publish anything on and employees who are affected (all of us??) will be notified early next week
Benny Safdie confirms The Safdie Brothers have split.
“It’s a natural progression of what we each want to explore. I will direct on my own, and I will explore things that I want to explore. I want that freedom right now in my life.”

WWE star Liv Morgan was arrested yesterday in Sumter County, Florida after a traffic stop.
Morgan was arrested for possession of marijuana (not more than 20 grams) and posession of drugs, possibly synthetic cannabinoid.
Morgan has already bonded out.

super extremely proud of the work i have been doing thus far for The Fader rap column and the breadth & diversity of what i have covered so far. going to share a thread of all my columns thus far:
i really feel like the last few years have irony-poisoned a lot of people into thinking Trump Isn't Actually That Bad just because he says goofy shit sometimes
for my first
@thefader
Rap Column of the year, i survey the endless flood of inventive rap coming out of milwaukee from artists like
@1Brudderman
&
@Real_MulaMar
, and how the city's breakout success proves that rap journalism still has value in 2024
i think a lot of aew fans are going to be legitimately traumatized by how badly we all got worked when a lot more of this shit comes to light, all i'm gonna say
"dj whoo kid watched cm punk beat up luke perry's son" is an objectively crazy sentence. if you said those words to a medieval peasant they would damn you to hell
aew fans: cm punk is a cancer to the locker room
also aew fans: here's 10 reasons why ric flair taking out his shriveled senile dick out in front of the women's roster is actually good for business
