This year has been a trying year for my family. Wife has had to deal with surgery, chemo, and now radiation for stage 3 breast cancer. To help my kids cope and thrive I’m having my kids hit a lot of balls everyday (table tennis and tennis). It’s part distraction but it’s also

I’m happy with today’s release of the new Standard versions of the Model Y ($40k) and Model 3 ($37k). I fully expect them to be amazing vehicles. Nothing can beat them at those price points.

A big shift is starting to happen. People are buying Tesla vehicles because FSD is great. Tesla FSD v14 is going to accelerate this.

Yes, Tesla’s $250 non-refundable order fee counts as the binding contract. For finance/cash orders, you just need to order by 11:59 PM ET on September 30th to be eligible to take advantage of the $7,500 Fed EV credit (assuming you’re below the income limits). You can take

Latest IRS guidance allows people in U.S. to order vehicle by 9/30 and take delivery later (ie., in Q4) and still receive $7500 federal EV tax credit. Applies only to cash/finance, not leasing. I hope Tesla adds the full details to their website's homepage and makes it front

I’m thinking this is just the intro to Master Plan Part IV. The real master plan ought to have more specifics. Just my two cents.

Just a safety reminder. FSD v13 is great but it still requires supervision. Someone earlier today was telling me that they watch videos on their phone while on FSD on city streets. On highways it's debatable, but on city streets it's far too risky. FSD v13 in an unsupervised

@jamesdouma V14 will be better than human for sure, but I don’t know if it will be 10X. Maybe 2X to 3X. V15 has a shot at 10X.

It’s crazy that some people claim the majority of SpaceX’s revenue comes from government subsidies/handouts. When in reality only 7% comes from NASA and that’s from SpaceX winning competitive bids to provide services like astronaut transport.

Total revenue that SpaceX will receive from NASA this year is ~$1B out of ~$15B total, so ~7%. Moreover, NASA is paying SpaceX for astronaut & cargo transport to the Space Station, launching research satellites and some work for returning to the Moon. All of these contracts

I do think that Tesla will release the Model Y L in the U.S. though. That’s the plan. Elon is just shedding light on possibility that plans could change depending on how self-driving plays out.

@heydave7 Your points are well taken, Dave. However, I believe it’s just an attempt to stave off some Osborning. No way they don’t bring that car to NA. It’s built on the same lines at Model Y. That’s WHY they did it this way. Can’t wait to see it.

FWIW Tesla shouldn’t be talking about 4/5-seater and 6/7-seater self driving vehicle platforms right now. Could cause some people to delay purchase of their vehicles which won’t be good for Tesla. And there could be hiccups along the way. And production is still a while away.

For clarification, I’m not saying Tesla won’t make self-driving cars for people to purchase. I’m confident they will. They’ll take what they learn from the Cybercab and make a 4 and a 6-seater vehicle platform designed for self-driving. And people will be able to buy them.

Here’s how I interpret Elon’s comment. Self-driving will lower demand for nice drivable vehicles since people won’t drive but be driven. Tesla’s vehicles to date all drive well but that is because that was primary use case. But to make a car drive well it adds expense (better

@WholeMarsBlog This variant of the Model Y doesn’t start production in the US until the end of next year. Might not ever, given the advent of self-driving in America.
