This man married a U.S. citizen and has spent three years separated from his wife and daughter—trapped outside the country by a cruelly slow and opaque immigration system. I hope they thrive now that they’re reunited. But families shouldn’t have to suffer like this. They deserve.

Congrats to @ScottWu46 and @jeffwsurf for a job well done here. “A founder goes down with the ship.”. The story you leave behind matters more than the product you built. And when the lights go out, your team remembers how you left.

To put it mildly, the past week at Windsurf has been crazy. There have been a lot of different rumors and reports, so I want to share a transparent account of how it actually went down. Before I start, I just want to say that Varun and Douglas were great founders and this.

There’s a belief that AI will wipe out entry-level developer jobs. But what if the opposite happens?. If coding now means writing less and reviewing more, earlier career developers who are comfortable debugging, adapting, and prompting might be exactly what teams need.

But, plot twist:. The much-discussed contraction in entry-level tech hiring appears to have *reversed* in recent months. In fact, relative to the pre-generative AI era, recent grads have secured coding jobs at the same rate as they’ve found any job, if not slightly higher.

Proud to see Linear ranked as the #4 most-loved tool in @GergelyOrosz's 2025 survey of 3K+ developers. It reinforces our belief that great software is built when tools stay out of your way and help you move fast with focus.

This is one of the biggest challenges in early-stage hiring right now. It’s not just a comp war—it’s a war for attention, conviction, and belief. The mercenary shift is real. But mission-driven builders still exist. You just have to make the mission undeniable.

Founders today are competing not just on product, but on narrative. You have to articulate why the best people in the world should join you—not because they need a job, but because they could do anything. and this is the most meaningful version of “anything.”.

For early-stage startups, this creates a paradox:.You can’t offer the tools or the salary of large tech companies. So your only edge is:.→ mission clarity.→ speed.→ trust.→ ownership. And increasingly, that may not be enough.

There’s a growing mercenary culture in AI. Not because people don’t care about mission. But because the infrastructure (comp, GPU access, elite peers) to do good work is becoming concentrated in just a few companies.

Foundational AI labs have become the new "Google" of prestige. But they’re also the new Wall Street: elite, flush with cash, and highly competitive.

Fast forward to 2025: Large tech companies are offering hundred million dollar packages to AI researchers. This isn’t just a market shift. It’s a seismic rewiring of what talent optimization looks like in tech.

When I started in tech in 2009, joining a startup meant taking a huge pay cut. You did it for the mission, the growth, the bet on yourself (and maybe because the best-paid jobs in finance or big tech weren't hiring in the recession). Startups were for the scrappy and idealistic.

One of the best lessons in your career is not getting too caught up when things don’t go your way. I used to get frustrated when an idea didn’t land. Now, if 6 out of 10 eventually make it through, I’m pleased. Startups are messy. Managing expectations is underrated.
