Barriers like having to find the time and energy to ring up, being put on hold and navigate automatic systems, speak to staff and remember key bits of information can mean many don't even try and stay on poor deals. Those who do try can find the process stressful and exhausting

Last year for @CitizensAdvice we asked our Research Community about their expeirences of trying to haggle with their telecoms provider. We found that the toxic combination of a tricky process and common symptoms of mental health problems can make this nearly impossible
When your fixed term telecoms contract comes to an end 📱 🌐, haggling with your provider is one of the ways to avoid your bill shooting up 📈. At @CitizensAdvice, we're worried that not everyone has equal access to these 'hidden deals.' 🧵

Just had a meeting at HM Treasury with @TulipSiddiq behalf of @mmhpi to discuss potential unfair treatment of people with mental health problems when getting insurance (especially travel) plus needed improvements to debt collection practices which damage people's mental health.

But we need to understand what people with mental health problems think about data sharing, including any concerns they might have. That's exactly what we're trying to do in this new project. If we don't do this then any system that shares data won't succeed

While there's lots of support available for people's money and mental health, lots of us aren't made aware of it and it can be very difficult to ask for help once let alone from all the orgs who could support us. Data sharing could make this process easier
We’re working on a new project on data sharing between essential services, funded by the #AvivaFoundation. As @chrislees_ explains, we’ll look at how data sharing can better support people with money and mental health problems. Find out more: https://t.co/QzePF7IebA

Warning: Miss one month’s council tax payment & it could ask you to pay the whole year bill within weeks. Council tax debt collection is far worse than finance firms. It’s destructive especially for those with mental health issues. My speech at @MMHPI campaign launch
