Without diagnosis, without the right treatment Crohn’s and Colitis can be life threatening. People who experience delays to diagnosis are twice as likely to need surgery.

Living with an invisible illness means we become masters in smiling and saying we're fine, when in reality, we're not feeling great. Just because we appear well, it doesn't mean we are. Be kind - you never know what someone's going through 💜

It can be hard to talk about Crohn’s or Colitis. Sometimes it feels easier to put on a brave face, and what we say isn’t always exactly what we mean. Remember that not every disability is visible, and that it can be hard to open up about their effects even to loved ones 💜

Many people living with

feel like they have an

and just because someone appears 'fine' on the outside it doesn't mean they're not struggling on the inside
The impact of Crohn's or Colitis is often hidden behind closed doors or smiles. Others can forget that they may only see us on our good days, and that the condition still affects us even if we look OK.

Stomas, scars and bloating are just some of the ways our bellies can be affected by Crohn’s or Colitis on the outside. But for some, the outside doesn’t always show what’s happening on the inside. Not every disability is visible, but all bellies are beautiful 💜

Frustrating to see this
@educationgovuk
. School attendance matters, but so does supporting children with chronic conditions. Not every tummy ache is mild. It could be something serious like Crohn's or Colitis. Many kids want to be in school, learning with their friends but can't.
When you live with Crohn's or Colitis, fatigue can mean your body is already running low on energy even after sleep, and the simplest tasks can be totally exhausting. It's okay if you need to take breaks, take naps or need other adjustments to stay well 💜
