Cutting UC health is going to hurt disabled people. If the government is serious about helping disabled people into work, this isn’t the way to go. We’re still asking MPs to vote against the bill on Wednesday. Read more in our blog ⤵️.

3. It’s not clear how well people with the most severe conditions will be protected from these cuts because:.➡️ There’s no extra payment as promised in the green paper.➡️ The bill tightens the criteria currently used.➡️ The current assessment (WCA) is also supposed to be scrapped.

2. The changes are based on wrong assumptions. UC health isn’t a block to work. In fact, by giving access to the work allowance, it increases the financial incentives to work.

1. It will create a two-tier system. People who claim UC health after April 2026 will be £3,000 a year worse off, on average. This is clearly unfair and can’t be justified.

This couldn't happen to other consumers. Ofgem must introduce fair pricing rules, and clamp down on poor practice from 2026. Read more in our latest report ⤵️.

Everyone we spoke to was struggling to afford their bills - many pushed into debt. But instead of support people were refused payment plans, some were told to pay in full. Nearly half had been disconnected after falling behind on their energy bills.

We, along with 80 other charities, are urging MPs to vote against the UCPIP Bill at the second reading. There is too much at stake for disabled people for this Bill to be rushed through without the opportunity for meaningful challenge or scrutiny.

We’re asking all MPs to vote against the UCPIP Bill today. The government’s own impact assessment says the cuts will plunge 150,000 people into poverty by the end of this Parliament. This is likely an underestimate and says nothing of the people already in poverty who will sink.
