I could use some sales here. This anthology is pretty good, if I don't say so myself. I'm proud of the work
@JenLRossman
and I did on it, and the contributors, who are all awesome.
What does being the richest country in the world actually mean when the citizens of your country can’t afford healthcare, education, rent, or groceries?
@lbrothers
That was traditionally how it was done to the detriment of every army to ever fight the Greek phalanx until the Romans, who spotted the same thing the OP did. The phalanx was awesome right up until the first army who figured out how to outflank it.
@baileys
Jordan Peterson wouldn't dare do that in MY HOUSE. Mycology is an alternate reality where gender binary isn't even possible, all fungi are gender-fluid, we can't even SAY "male" or "female." Tetra-polar mating systems. 36,000 genders...
@DrAndrewThaler
Quite honestly, even without being disgruntled, those engineers are being asked to pull 80-hour weeks. They're overworked and will make mistakes even without the desire to spite the new boss.
@DutchGlaswegian
Unfortunately you’ve exceeded the parameters of the assignment, which was “defeat a Greek phalanx,” not “global thermonuclear war.” I’ll have to grade you appropriately.
@LennyLiebmann
@baileys
MYcology beats URology hands down, or so said Bryce Kendrick D. Sc. (Professor Emeritus University of Waterloo). I was blessed to have him as one of several informal mentors.
@lartist
@johnhaydenmpls
The cycle of life can be cruel, yes. But look at it this way: you fed a hungry hawk, and reduced the rodent population through natural processes. You’re a HERO.
@baileys
Heterothallic fungi like Schizophyllum commune, outcross at nearly 100% (99.987%). with each individual being compatible with 27,997 other genders out of the 28,000 possibilities. Peterson better not every show up at my place.
@baileys
Aspergillus nidulans is homothallic. Experienced mother cells (having divided at least once) swap genders with each cell division. Selfing involves activation of the same mating pathways characteristic of sex in outcrossing species.
@ElieNYC
I don’t understand how this even made it to the SCOTUS, how the attorneys haven’t been disbarred, or even how the plaintiff isn’t herself facing prosecution. In the history of bad Supreme Court decisions, there have been a few real stinkers, but this one reeks.
@ThatSamWinkler
His tomato math was horrible. He equates a tomato fruit with a tomato plant, vastly underestimating the number of plants you can get out of one tomato plant if you save the seed.
Then I vastly underestimates the amount of time required by neglecting the existence of SEASONS....
Yes, this is actually *flying*. I discovered that once you have two or more of these closed loops in flight, and they're close enough, you can bridge them together, and even fill in between them.

Great Prys are also 100% outdoor dogs. Just not suitable for indoors at all. Give them plenty of outdoor space and a herd or flock to protect and they are in their element. A working dog who knows what their job is.

Because turning 26 was literally a death sentence, $16.50 is considered a decent wage by employers, and $1200/month reasonable for insulin which was never patented.
@americanwombat
At the Battle of Cynocephalae in 197 BCE, the Romans defeated the Greek phalanx easily because the Greeks had failed to guard the flanks of their phalanx and, further, the Greek commanders could not turn the mass of men who comprised the phalanxes quickly enough...
So... Yes...
@hankgreen
Googling "oak leaf galls" turns up the very interesting biology of the oak leaf gall wasp. Wasps lay their eggs inside the leaves of oak trees, and the plant forms the gall to protect itself from the irritant, thus providing protection for the wasp's eggs as well.
@MollyJongFast
Trump campaign uses photoshop of British citizen standing on a bridge across the Thames to sell hats made in China to opponents of multinationalism.
Sketchy as hell, CHECK!
Five perfect loops, but two of them have four more loops inside them, for a total of 13 loops. All of them close enough together to bridge between them. Extended flying towns are possible.

Oh, the agony of paying... *checks notes* ...0.05% per month on union dues. The folks making $100k/year shell out... $53.26 per paycheck. THE HORROR.
1) Mermaids aren't real.
2) Transgressive policies of a majority-white American government are real.
Which of these you're upset about shows a lot about your character.
Black bodies are being shot up by police. Brown children are in concentration camps & are dying in them. Children are dying because of our war policies in the middle east.
All due to White transgression
White America is mad a black girl playing a fiction character in a Movie 😒

Republicans: We'll hire a large corporation to contract your food box. What small farms?

These impoverished whites can literally not make the connection between there own woes and their votes to harm blacks. They are so desperately invested in hurting others that they willingly harm themselves; believing they are hurting 'undeserving' people far away.
@BerniceKing
He's also wrong. There've been numerous wars across Europe in the 77 years since WWII ended. Too many examples to cite in a tweet.
Some have been ongoing for decades. It's convenient to forget that Armenia and Azerbaijan have been at war since 1988, for example.
@GailSimone
Removal of the return to and scouring of the Shire. Changing Sauruman’s fate.
But mostly, dropping Tom Bombadil entirely. That would have annoyed Tolkien no end.

The segments were prerecorded.
This was PREVENTABLE.
The way for the old guard to remain relevant is for them to remain CURRENT, not to wallow in the memories of past inglory.

Capitalism's Big Lie in four words: "There is no alternative." Looters use this lie for cover, insisting that they're hard-nosed grownups living in the reality of human nature, incentives, and facts (which don't care about your feelings).

Right. John Flune is 60. The minimum wage in 1978 was $2.65/hr. He made over double that. Inflation has reduced the value of a dollar FOURFOLD. So very nearly $25/hr in today's currency.
That restaurant job today should be paying $25/hr. IF that work had the same value.
@ChuckWendig
I love the bit about you being an "unknown author." They bought a book which literally has the words "New York Times Bestselling Author" on the cover.
But sure, "Chuck Wendig: Man-Woman — Enemy of a crumbling nation." It's your new byline.

The research was attempting to see if giving the rats a complex task to do would decrease their stress levels. I'd say the answer was yes. The rats actually enjoyed it and didn't need the food reward to encourage them.
The full study was far more involved than this.
@That_Chemist
Even after overcoming the not inconsiderable engineering difficulties involved with working with this devil’s brew, the end result, to put it mildly, is a great big middle finger to everyone and everything at the launch site. Never use near anyone you even middlingly care about.

They're trying to make the genie look like Will Smith. That's the bit which doesn't work. The closer you get to something (or someone) real in CGI, the worse it looks.

Republicans have no desire to have more Americans working if credit for it goes to Democrats. They have no desire for putting America to work if it means taxing the rich. They want Democratic leadership to fail allowing them to take over. It’s not enough to win. Others must lose.

Bring on the universal basic income and a society in which everyone has their food, medical, and housing needs covered. Jobs can then be used for supplemental income and paying for internet gaming.

I remember when AOL banned all mention of "breasts" which ended both the Breast Cancer Survivor's Group and deleted every last chicken breast recipe. You couldn't even say you were keeping abreast of the news on AOL. No one ever learns, do they?

Total mystery. A guy whose business was being propped up by his kids and a corrupt lawyer, totally reliant on mob money to keep his cash flow... That should totally work as a leader of the free world, right?

Brooklyn is a horrible place for a space elevator! It's not EQUATORIAL! The structural stress exceeds the Young's Modulus for all known materials. You have to build a space elevator on the equator. It's like the wall. It. Doesn't. Work.

Clearly, you have never had to deal with the Amalgamated Union of Squirridae and Other Small Mammals. When a deputation of squirrels come to your door, they come bearing a list of grievences. You'd better have corn and peanuts handy.
I've spent a lifetime being told I'm things I'm not. That I have feelings I don't have. That I'm someone other than who I am. When are you going to stop TELLING me who I am and listen to who I am?
Posts like this assert a narrative that so-called "made up" identities are desperate cries for attention rather than new ways of understanding the complexity of human existence and unifying a misunderstood community.
This narrative is dangerous.
Demisexuality is valid.

Wages started failing to keep pace with inflation back before *I* graduated from college in 1983. It took me decades to pay off loans that were paltry by today’s standards. It definitely far far worse now.
I discussed this yesterday with my mom (who is 84), and in the course of the conversation she mentioned off-hand that the early-teen boys next door were "as big as you are."
They're 14 and 15, and neither one is over 5'. I'm 6' Mom is 5'2".
This is still bothering me. A lot. Because it's an amazingly efficient intersection of racism, classism, ableism, and sexism, and that's a lot to put on what's supposed to be Free Candy For Everyone Night.

Robin Williams didn't need his face pasted on the genie to "sell" us. His voice acting sold it. Will Smith has that as well if they'd let him, but Will Smith isn't Robin Williams, so Disney is cautious. Wrongly so, I think.

I particularly love the bit where they describe paying union dues as if it were a bad thing.
If the extremist political right can suppress the votes of black people, they can suppress the votes of ANY person. If one person suffers from oppression ALL ARE OPPRESSED. When you punch down, the floor collapses and everything over it falls.
Having no desire for sex does not equate with having a desire to be alone, or to have no romance or to not be in a relationship. I have no desire to be alone, am passionately romantic and luckily have been in a ten-year relationship. None of those things makes me NOT asexual

Those "uncool" cities are "uncool" for a very good reason.
The jobs are not there. The services are not there. The education is not there. The people are not there. They're not "uncool" cities. They're cities which are struggling.
