@GailSimone If I may offer one tip on this one: read your dialogue out loud. If it sounds meh, cliched or marble mouthed β it's going to land flat and mangled inside the reader's brain.

@GailSimone @ronmarz Be open to change. Sometimes, after seeing the art, I adjust, or delete dialogue because the rt conveys it and we don't need it. also, if the artist says my 5 panel page works better as 6, I listen. They are almost always right.

@GailSimone I can't believe the number of times I've gotten the camera direction for one panel that would take 2-5 panels to actually execute. ESPECIALLY from writers that usually do TV and movies that are giving comicbook writing a try. π

I respected their wishesβ¦no problem at all. In both cases, the characters were in some contention for royalties, and it would make the creators have a friend (me) use their character under those conditions. No ill feelings at all.

Itβs not friction, it is respect. They never say, βno,β they say it would be uncomfortable for personal or business reasons, and once they say that, to me, itβs like a picket line. The vast majority of times Iβve asked, theyβve all been hugely supportive.
@GailSimone Whatβs an editorβs role when their creatives are faced with such friction from the predecessor(s)?

@GailSimone Two quick ones from me: 1) Always include the time of day and weather so that the artist/colourist knows how to light the scene. They will thank you; 2) focus on communicating the tone/intent of a page or scenes and the charactersβ emotions to the artist over strict shot calling.

@GailSimone @ronmarz One more thing worth adding - include time of day on each page! It can greatly affect the art and feeling of a panel + it's helpful for colourists!
