They will do everything to stop the ocean of gun violence our country experiences every week except the one thing that will actually stop the violence—making it harder for violent criminals to get access to guns. They are completely and totally captured by the gun lobby
The Brown University shooter, Claudio Manuel Neves Valente entered the United States through the diversity lottery immigrant visa program (DV1) in 2017 and was granted a green card. This heinous individual should never have been allowed in our country. In 2017, President Trump

I do not agree with Ramaswamy on much, but I have also experienced this newfound Groyper hatred of Indians. It is mostly confined to online spaces for now, but I worry it won't be for long. The far-right is getting more extreme every day; I fear where they are taking our country
American identity isn’t a scalar quality that varies based on your ancestry. It’s binary: either you’re an American, or you’re not. You are an American if you believe in the rule of law, in freedom of conscience & freedom of expression, in colorblind meritocracy, in the U.S.

The AG drew an unfortunate panel here. I think the full D.C. Circuit probably feels differently than this Trump-friendly panel. The deployment of the National Guard in D.C. is illegal
A unanimous D.C. Circuit panel clears the way for Trump's deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., staying a lower court's order that foudn the deployment illegal. The panel Millett: Obama Rao: Trump Katsas Trump. https://t.co/8iDzismEu6

"I kindly urge every public official and candidate to ask one main question about RCV: What can I do to help? The best thing we can do right now is work together to ensure that RCV rolls out as smoothly as practical," ends Thompson in a written comments to me.

We support statehood because we want the will of the people of DC to be implemented. The people made clear in November that they want RCV, starting with the June 2026 primary elections. I hope Councilmembers that support statehood heed that call and vote No on the RCV delay bill

RCV is already making campaigns more civil and issue-based. Look at this joint letter by Ward 1 candidates asking the Council not to delay RCV. That kind of letter would never have happened before the switch. RCV is already fulfilling its promises!
Today, I joined with my fellow Ward 1 candidates to call on the @councilofdc to reject the latest attempt to cancel ranked-choice voting for the 2026 elections.

I know @Vote4DC is ready to implement RCV for DC's June primary election; I spoke on a panel with their Director where she laid out how they will do so. Voter education has started and candidates have planned campaigns around RCV. We cannot change the rules of the game mid-stream

This is the second Republican bill introduced in the past two months to rename a DC street after Charlie Kirk. Among the many reasons we need DC statehood is to stop members of Congress from wasting their time on DC local matters that their constituents could care less about
GOP Rep. Nancy Mace just introduced a bill to redesignate Black Lives Matter Plaza in front of the White House as “Charlie Kirk Freedom of Speech Plaza” The bill requires at least two Metro-style signs be erected with the name.

Thank you to DC Women in Politics and panelists Director Evans from @Vote4DC and @DCMeadows for kicking off the education campaign today on how RCV will work in DC! My #1 piece of advice to DC voters is to rank all five candidates to give yourself the most voice

I am so happy to see a judge recognize that the Trump Administration's racial profiling, harassment, and kidnapping of Latino and immigrant Washingtonians is blatantly illegal. We must put an end to this inhumane attack on our city, and this is a good first step
A federal judge ruled that federal agents have to scale back the warrantless arrests of immigrants that have been happening in D.C. “They’ve been roaming around arresting people who appear Latino without any regard of who they are," says an attorney. https://t.co/xlCCNiKURU

Among the many reasons we need DC Statehood is to stop Congress from wasting its time on issues that have absolutely no impact on the constituents they were elected to represent. Thank you to @RepRobertGarcia @EleanorNorton for their advocacy against this waste of time bill

Today, @GOPoversight met its solemn responsibility to conduct oversight of the Trump Administration's illegal actions.... just kidding, they spent time debating what doctrine DC's local courts should employ when interpreting DC's local administrative regulations

I guess it is possible that they will try to move this bill as a non-emergency measure, so it might be better to say it's 99% official

The last-gasp effort to delay / stop RCV has failed. It is now 100% official--RCV is coming to DC starting with the June primary! I'm so glad that DC voters get to move to an election system that gives us more voice and more choice
Well, that was that: @CMWendellFelder withdrew his bill that would have delayed ranked-choice voting in D.C., mostly over procedural concerns with his bill. Emergency legislation can't carry a cost, and there were arguments that Felder's bill would cost the elections board money.

The horrific terrorist attack on patriotic Guard troops cannot be used to paper over the fact that this mission has been a useless failure. Rather than doubling down on it and actually reducing crime-fighting resources in DC, the government must end the deployment immediately

If the National Guard need someone else to guard them, they shouldn't be here in the first place. The Guard has already wasted taxpayer dollars ($201 MILLION for 2025) to do nothing. Now they may be taking officers who are actually fighting crime off the beat to watch over them
NEWS: DC police will patrol with National Guard after the fatal attack, at least for now. If enacted long term, the change would significantly shift the way National Guardsmen work with law enforcement. W/ @jennygathright @oliviacgeorge
