Unbelievable. This would be a terrible blow to American science, writ large. It would decimate not only climate research, but also the kind of weather, wildfire, & disaster research underpinning half a century of progress in prediction, early warning, & increased resilience.
Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.

The data below is from Sac Exec Airport (KSAC) but can be loosely applied to the central Sac Valley to northern San Joaquin Valley as it’s fairly uniform. #caWX

Pretty sure 1985 wasn't quite this bad. It's been foggy in the CV since Nov. 22 and won't relent until maybe next week...when it'll rain. A few days in the middle have had sun in the afternoon, and that's what makes the break from 1985. But we should see the totality of the event
Central California is currently experiencing one of the most remarkable temperature inversions I've ever seen in this part of the world. The Central Valley remains miserably damp & chilly under dense fog layer, but it's balmily warm & sunny just 2,000ft up nearby mountain slopes!

We're at 7000' in Sequoia Crest and it didn't even fall below freezing last night. Looking like an absolutely stunning rest week up here. Though snow would be much better over all.
Parts of the SF North Bay Area could also stay a bit chilly as fog "spills" westward from the Valley through the Carquinez Strait. But away from the CV and above the inversion, it'll be quite warm and sunny! Expect 60s in NorCal foothills/mtns and 70s (or warmer) SoCal. #CAwx
