Happy October—here’s a list of 100 avant-garde horror films I recommend, and links to watch the large majority of them.

When I was a philosophy undergrad I said a lot of stupid things with a lot of unearned confidence. Many such cases. Fortunately my profs were very patient with me and I read stuff and got better

Here’s my (very timely) report on Big Ears 2025. Lankum, Brìghde Chaimbeul, [ahmed], still house plants, things like that.

I also found myself reaching for “childish” as a descriptor if GDT’s vision when writing about this but tried to avoid it because actually, kids are little freaks and perverts and a lot of great art is made by people who understand this
Because del Toro childized a complicated story in which good and evil are more ambiguous. It's not good.

Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani already solved this problem
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.” Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says: “You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Elizabeth in the book is a kind of empty symbol of feminine bourgeois values, for Del Toro she is a stupid version of virtue to contrast masculine ambition, bc he sees good & bad guys and not social contradictions To answer the question: neither, I just want an interesting movie
Very confused by most of your criticism of Frankenstein. Do you want it to be closer to the original source or do you want a badass feminist monster woman because in the book, we rarely hear from Elizabeth in her own words, and she has zero agency.
