Interesting choice to include Friday the 13th: Part II in a "final girl" series when it's one of the only 80s slashers with a final guy: Ted, the dude who survives by just hanging out at the townie bar.

Was delighted to read this in Amy's piece—Marty Supreme coincidentally inspired me to rewatch Jacobs's Orchard Street, shot around the same time Marty is set, and I was also struck by the similarities between Jack Fisk's recreation of '50s Orchard and the rhythms of its editing.

When I was managing ed of n+1, I got paid zero dollars and we made the second issue in my apt on my laptop (featuring Elif Batuman’s “Babel in California”). I’d say the mag has come a long way & remains independent, not beholden to any one mega donor or publisher’s influence.

‘Marty Supreme’ is ‘Uncut Gems’ meets ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ meets ‘Jerry Maguire,’ carried by TimothĂ©e Chalamet’s best performance yet. I loved it so much.

never took a class from Ken Jacobs, but intense experience of his work/thought, early on as a filmmaker, taught me how to see. he once said to me "the state derives power from keeping people stupid & docile, thus anything that expands consciousness becomes a political act" RIP
