New pre-print by amazing @Erik_Hermansen1!!! Minimal experiment to find torus, umaph, maybe we do path integrate at the gym (weird), and more! ๐๐ฅณโต๏ธ๐ฉ๐ฉ!
New paper: Grid cell torus on a road to nowhere ๐ฉ The toroidal representation can be detected and internal dynamics decoded in mice (as in rats), ephys, Ca2+ imaging, head-fixed, open field, wheel and in VR! Paper: https://t.co/sohQLTnRbm With @klindt_david @adric_dunn (1/9)

The peer-reviewed version of expansion in situ genome sequencing is now out in Science! The news is bittersweet โ when we first revealed this last September, I never guessed it would be my final paper in academia, but a lot has changed. A few parting thoughts:

It's obviously much easier to justify spending tax dollars on science in terms of returns from spinoffs, but deep down I believe we should support science for the same reason I believe we should support art: it enriches our culture and ennobles our souls.

Regular reminder. As an academic, student, postdoc, or professor, you accept less pay and more stress. It is only worth doing if what you do truly matters. Do that high-risk project. Because the boring project does not justify the downsides of academia. For the love of ideas.
