I think that advent of AI tools will increase value of seminars a lot for answering “does the author understand their own research?” / “did the author supervise the work adequately?”
It's worth bearing in mind that if this was presented in a seminar, the seminar would basically grind to a halt around these mistakes.

Peningkatan peran swasta gimana, semua2 diurus negara gitu.
Purbaya… https://t.co/7VcSv2Bo19

One of my favorite charts in the entire economics literature. Price discovery and information technology are good.
Kerala fishermen used to sail to shore, pick a market, and hope for the best. On any given day, 5-8% of the catch was thrown away — fish rotting at glutted beaches while neighboring beaches had none. Then they got cell phones. Waste dropped to nearly zero.

It's ironic to see a discipline care **so much** about unbiasedness (causal inference!) at the level of a single test but then have a research production system and culture that is basically a ferocious bias generation machine. This is not good.

This is not true at UChicago lol.
btw econ is a fundamentally unserious major because even at a top school like UC Berkeley, the highest level math required to graduate with an econ degree is Calculus II. even the math intensive advanced econ degree only requires you to take up to multi-variable calculus!

Never understood why some public officials treat a PhD like a checkbox. Its a research degree, not a status badge. A real PhD takes YEARS of deep work n research. If someone can run a full public office while “doing” one, either they r superhuman... or the standards arent what
Respect....

I just read this paper by Esther Duflo and I loved it. Came across this in one of @captgouda24 posts. Instead of just assuming that everything is incentives, it asks economist and policy folks to figure out the plumbing of the changes that they’re proposing. Getting to a new

Sad that he didn’t mention the Philippines. Coz I think that the United States and the Philippines have always had a good relationship with each other. We were colonized by the Americans and we have their culture and our traditions even up to this day. https://t.co/IPU8C05atK

One of the worst outcomes of grade inflation is that it discourages students pushing themselves, taking a class that's a bit too hard for them, or in a field they don't know much about. The risk of a B when so many get straight As is real -> Safer to stick to what they know.
I will be enthusiastically supporting faculty legislation to cap the number of A's at Harvard at 20% (plus a bit). The collective action problem that has driven grades higher & higher over time is increasingly problematic. I hope other institutions consider similar steps.
