People who identify with truth rarely seek it because they think they already have it.

@patrickc I think there is also a component of leaders and broader society needing to have the “will to have nice things.” Every fountain everywhere will lose a battle with entropy. Someone needs to choose, and keep choosing, that the fountain is a priority.

Individual accountability is the foundation of interpersonal relationships. Refusing accountability allows one partner to hide who they are by never allowing their choices to define them. Only people with definition can be intimate.
No happy relationship is possible with someone who struggles with accountability. If they won't accept ownership of their mistakes, take responsibility for their actions & make changes when they're wrong, they have made your integrity the price of a relationship with them.

One of the scariest things, to me, is when people are in a deteriorating situation that progressively undermines their ability to understand it, like when nitrogen narcosis makes it harder for a diver to recognize the warning signs of nitrogen narcosis.

This will probably be an essay crossposted to the EA forums eventually but for now it is just my thoughts. i was watching a video recently where the creator was reviewing old "what will the future be like in 2025?" media to see how accurate they were and was struck by smth.

never take progress for granted. progress takes heroes. every day. if we don't fight for it, we don't just go backwards, we actually lose the abilities of our ancestors.

@interintellect_ Part of what makes the novel so relatable is how universal and timeless the themes are -- author Eiji Yoshikawa points to insights that we continue exploring and sharing today. Looking forward to a great discussion Saturday!
