Surely @hackneycouncil, you have a duty of care?

Congestion often stretching the entire road. It’s now 3pm. Check the timestamps.👇

@Meg_HillierMP Dear Meg Please have a look at this thread. It’s about unprecedented congestion on roads like Graham Rd thanks to Hackney’s policies. It shows congestion from 11am to 7pm. Do you agree this is untenable and extremely harmful to the residents?

That’s 8 hours of seriously polluting idling motor traffic on a residential road, thanks to @hackneycouncil’s dreadful traffic policy favouring some residents at the detriment of others.😡

@LittleNinjaUK @jksmith34 @SocEnvJustice @visitcamberwell @ShimanoSteve @indieHackney @KatharinaH42 @ioisours @seanpaulday @TheFox89688362 Hackney has 70% of road space closed by LTNs. Congestion on the remaining (residential!) roads is now more congested than ever before the covid LTNs. Daily 7-8 hrs of idling traffic is the new norm. Residents breathing in more pollution for the benefit of the already better off.

@VincentStops @hackneycouncil Vincent, where are the plans to reduce traffic on Graham Rd? The residents are now daily suffering up to 7 hrs of congestion in front of their homes, often the entire length of road. Not caused by roadworks, btw. See screenshots of last Friday, with time stamps.

What makes Richmond Road so special that it can be closed to through traffic, shifting its burden onto those who live, work, and wait for buses on Graham Road? “Two thirds of London borough's roads are now inside LTNs but are they actually working” ?

93% of cars come from non-main roads. They belong on the streets where they come from. Virtually all of Hackney’s main roads cut through residential areas. LTNs are the problem.

"A 10-minute journey is now taking 30 minutes +" Why on earth are you driving for just 10 minutes? You're the problem. Hackney has the 4th lowest car ownership per household in London at 34%. Main road traffic belongs on main roads, not cutting through residential areas.

TfL's latest research confirms: LTNs do NOT reduce car use. It's official: Relocating traffic from affluent high car ownership roads onto busy community roads does NOT result in traffic evaporation. Motorists now drive further in more congested traffic burning more fuel!

Why aren’t LTN advocates thinking about driver tiredness linked directly to LTNs, which affect the entire route if any part borders it? This is almost criminal negligence by implementers & their apologists, an abrogation of the fundamental duty of care of government to citizen.

We live, cycle and walk in increased congestion and pollution thanks to LTNs and the cycle lobby who called harming children and families here outside LTNs a success. No reduced car usage and lies of evaporation…. Victims of LTNs continue to be sacrificed

The claim "LTNs reduce car use" was used by councils to justify concentrating traffic on community roads, generating hundreds of £millions in fines and increasing property prices on affluent high car ownership roads. TfL buried the study that showed this claim to be false. For

Sadiq Khan’s officials suppressed taxpayer-funded research that showed LTNs do not reduce car use TfL chose not to publish the study after it found the traffic relocation schemes helped increase cycling but failed to encourage people to use their cars less or walk more 🧵

Whatever your opinion is on LTNs, this should be condemned by everyone. @TfL knew the evidence showed car use wasn’t being cut, and instead of coming clean, they buried it. That’s not policy- it’s propaganda. It’s deceit of the public on an industrial scale. And guess what?

A HUGE EXCLUSIVE from the Times, just put up on its website. TfL suppressed a report which showed LTNs don't cut car use. The Times has seen emails between TfL and Rachel Aldred's unit at Westminster University which did the study expressing concern about its results.

Lambeth and Wandsworth are two neighbouring South London boroughs. Wandsworth has put in no recent LTNs. Lambeth has gone big on them. But it is Wandsworth that is performing better on just about every traffic metric.

@EllaRobertaFdn Sadly, many Labour politicians want to make us believe LTNs, Liveable Neighbourhoods, and all similar schemes with different names, are reducing pollution, when in fact all they do is move it along to the already worst off.

What Cllr Chowdhury, the lead for enviroment at Lambeth Council, who has blocked us, means is that Lambeth is intalling an LTN in an area where noise, air pollution and casualties are all low at the expense of the already busy surrounding rds. Vote her out in May!

@susanelizh25 No one’s claiming that. But some ppl claim it’s ok for some to benefit at others’ expense. To them, main road residents don’t matter. Are you one of those NIMBYs, Sue?

15/8/25 11:45am Hackney. Summer holidays, Graham Rd daily congestion from around 11am to 7pm. The reason? LTNs’ road closures & bus gates. Not roadworks, not cars (I can explain how so). @hackneycouncil offer no solution and seem not to care. Some residents don’t matter. 😢

Good advice. Let’s also open all LTNs (Low Traffic Neighbourhoods or ‘liveable streets’) for a fairer distribution of pollution. @NickFerrariLBC @cristo_radio @andrewellson @MumsForLungs @DaveHill @JohnJohnStewart @LittleNinjaUK @heartstreatham @hackneycitizen @metecoban92

City Hall has triggered a high air pollution alert for Tuesday 12 August as hot weather is expected to increase pollutant levels. We're urging Londoners to look after themselves, stop their engines idling, and refrain from burning wood or garden waste.
