With pension contributions for staff accounting for a further 23% of council tax revenues on average, the typical council is now seeing about £2 in every £5 they raise from residents effectively disappear before a penny is spent on essential services.

I put FOIs into every council in the country and found they spend an average of 18% of the cash they raise in council tax just on servicing the cost of loans.

Britain’s councils now spend an average of nearly £1 in every £5 raised in council tax on debt interest payments . They collectively owe at least £148.5 billion, the equivalent of £5,200 for every household in the country, a 60% increase in ten years.

Lambeth Council finally agrees to refund drivers fined because of the unlawful West Dulwich LTN. That could cost the council up to £1.5m but as of yet no one had taken responsibility for this monumental waste of taxpayers’ cash. Why not? @RezinaChowdhury
