Yeah but there’s always a risk you’ll hire someone who doesn’t know why manholes are round. Even worse, maybe they won’t know how to sort a binary tree (in C no less) on a whiteboard.

I predict that within 10 years, computers will be twice as powerful, ten thousand times larger, and so expensive that only the 5 richest kings of Europe will own them.

Imagine.. you have a wife, and she’s getting drilled by everyone, and you can't do shit.
But you have the marriage certificate.
That’s your NFT.

I guess you could detect if there is no light whatsoever on screen. Say, if more than a certain percentage is black; then you could show a message stating that you just point it to an object in a lit room or something.

Code itself (while it should be explanatory) can never document an entire system. Reading the source code from 50 different systems in enterprise software won't necessarily explain how all these interact with each other.

T’as rien « annulé » pantoute. Tu t’es assis un soir à te demander ce que tu allais faire de tes 2 semaines de juillet et tu t’es juste dit que tu n’avais pas envie d’aller aux States cette année.
Cherche pas à te donner de l’importance. Surtout pour des « vacances ».

Oh I’m not the asshole here. The guy comes barging in telling people they are wrong. But when push comes to shove, asks for money and blocks conversations.
So don’t turn this on me.

Time is the enemy of “oral tradition”. Systems tend to live a lot longer that we originally plan. And so far, documentation has been the best way to ensure none of that knowledge is lost.

I won’t take back what I said (if that’s what you’re asking). The guy acted like a jerk, I called him out and he blocked the conversation.
That’s pretty much it. If the guy wasn’t paid, we both know that my response would have been way different.
Anyway, let’s move on.

The French have a saying: Cemeteries are filled with irreplaceable people. It’s been done before and it will happen again. There might be a few bumps on the road, but they’ll do fine.
