Tonight, the Board voted unanimously to delay the start date for the 2020-21 school year. The first day of school for all learning models will now be Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
We are heartbroken over City High Custodian Wegayewu Faris's tragic death after heroically helping to save the life of an 8-year-old child who had gone into the Iowa River. He is a true hero & will forever be remembered for his brave & selfless actions. We will miss him deeply.

Due to the forecast for extreme cold temperatures, Iowa City Schools will cancel all classes from Tuesday, January 29 through Thursday, January 31, 2019. Classes will resume on Friday, February 1, 2019. All evening activities are cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Today, Lemme Elementary welcomed a very special guest. Arthur Lemme made a visit to the school to honor his grandmother Helen Lemme, the school's namesake, and to meet Lemme's wonderful students and staff!
Due to the winter weather predicted for tomorrow, Iowa City Schools will dismiss elementary students at 11:55 & secondary students at 1:00 on Monday, Feb 5, 2018. Lunch will not be served at the elementary level, but will be served at the junior high & high school levels.
