Activists against decimation of British food by opening floodgates to lower regulated food. Farms will go bust. Consumers get less choice and higher prices
The reason we have
#foodshortages
in Britain is because of this
@Conservatives
govt and their
#Brexit
and it’s not because of Spanish weather!
Our chair
@LizWebsterLD
explains what’s happening and how there is a a quick fix which will solve most of the issues.
Eustice wrote to the EU about 'surprise' over shellfish.
EU wrote back showing him his own letter to stakeholders on Dec 10 detailing the position - the one he was claiming surprised him. 🤦♂️
Here’s Boris Johnson in 2016 promising to continue to support farming at same levels.
Now our support is being withdrawn and they’re subsidising car manufacturing instead.
The UK’s erosion of food standards continues as DEFRA ends additional inspections of meat products imported from Brazil.
Meat products shipped into 🏴 🏴 🏴 no longer face Salmonella testing prior to leaving Brazil and after arrival in Britain.
In April, Liz Truss said she would show her ‘inexperienced’ Australian counterpart ‘how to play at this level.’ In response, he secured the best deal in his country's history at the expense of Britain's farmers. I told her today she's the one who's proved she’s not up to the job.
No it’s not the English Channel causing the Great British 🇬🇧
#foodshortages
…it’s
#Brexit
which has ensured Britain suffers more than other EU countries in an increasingly serious global food crisis.
Our chair

explains why and what govt must do to limit the damage.
...And we’re off! As promised, we’ve taken our tractor demonstration to London just in time for the

Well this didn't age well, as Gove along with all but a handful of Tory MPs voted down an amendment that would have preserved UK standards for food, animal welfare and environmental protections on imports. This government has shown, time and again, that it can't keep its word.
Govt is controlling output of information so that British people are kept in the dark about the reality of what Brexit is doing to businesses.
Our food system has been severely kneecapped by Brexit/Covid, leaving us in worst of health to withstand looming gas/fertiliser crisis.
🇬🇧 farmers thrown under the Brexit bus.
🇬🇧 people’s health sold down the river with low standard food.
🇬🇧 NHS and BBC lined up to be sacrificed next on the Brexit altar.
👋 🇬🇧
In truth, the shocking and ignorant
#marr
performance of George Eustice should have ensured his resignation.
Our industry - businesses which feed the nation - is being disrespected by this Govt which is only focussed on destructive populism.
The EU continue to show Britain that al member states control their borders.
Now as third country British people and goods face even more delay and fresh food exports will become unviable.
#Brexit
needs to be improved - we need to join the SM and CU!
Europeans reject Brexit Britain.
“It’s just insolence to think that migrants are like a tap which you can open and close when needed.“
HGV driver Tomasz Orynski, originally from Poland, explains why the British job market just isn’t attractive to Europeans anymore.
"You're not backing down on offending every pig farmer in the country then?"
@tnewtondunn
asks Johnson who goes on to offend all British people who enjoy eating food produced by British farmers.
The ripple effect of hurting pig industry will perpetuate to all rural economies.
Simon Spurrell of Cheshire Cheese Co is angry.
“We got shipment through to Europe which took 6 days instead of 1. Rejected bc no longer fresh. We’ve paid to send it out and we had to pay to ship it back. We have to bin the cheese and refund the customer.
Hmmm... what would you rather save?
A. The British farming industry, local food supply, local rural communities, small farms, high quality food and higher animal welfare standards.
or
B. "Up to" £1.22 a year.
Just a reminder about that leaked memo which confirms why this Govt is collapsing British food and farming as Thatcher did the coal and steel industry.
Lord Deben, “This govt has set a bad example on trade. You really cannot sign up with Australia and NZ unless those countries agree to the same standards as we are placing on our farmers. I think this govt has to go back and renegotiate these deals ….”

#SaveBritishFarming
All the
#Brexit
false promises and lies are now becoming apparent.
For farming and fishing Brexit is disastrous. We really need to work together to force policy changes. Joining the single market would eliminate many problems very quickly.
The EU is a free trade zone for those within it but a protectionist zone from outside.
This *protects* its own farmers and produce from cheaper, low quality, dangerous products.
🇬🇧 is now outside that zone thanks to Boris Johnson’s Brexit and our farms face decimation.
URGENT! UK farmers: WE NEED YOU! If you can get a farm vehicle to London on Oct 12th, it's vital you join us in our battle for UK farming standards. This demo will get national coverage.

You just screwed British farmers. And animal welfare. And the British public's overwhelming wishes on animal welfare.
A 15 year "transition" doesn't matter. "Transition" to what, exactly? "Transition" to competing on lower standards that we - and the British public- do NOT want.
Fantastic to see so many tractors in

“Brexit is mess and it’s one of the factors why the economy is not working. As result of
#Brexit
farmers have lost 20% of turnover. Not only are we missing out on trade with Europe, we are also losing out on trading with RoW by not being part of the EU.”
Deregulating British farming ensures we lose our biggest export market, so how does this help British farming?
Big producers like Australia, Nz, Brazil won’t buy our beef and lamb.
While this govt fights for 12k fisherman, 27,501 hill
#farmers
are thrown under

In 2019 U.K. vessels landed fish value of £987m
But value of mutton/lamb 🐑 is £1.26bn and beef 🐄 £2.08bn.
And 🏴 🎣 skippers have sold about 55% of their quotas to foreign boats.
We are delighted that our campaign is being heard across 🇬🇧 and now 57% understand why

This is a terrible deal for 🇬🇧

working against British people
Govt expects its New Zealand trade deal to damage UK's farming industry, according to its own impact assessment.
Figures released show officials expect agriculture and other food related sectors to take roughly £150 million hit from the new agreement.
Leaving a trade block on our doorstep to join one in Asia to demolish our high British standards is about to happen.
This govt have no mandate to join CPTPP. No one voted to join another trade black and this govt is betraying Britain.
A good film on what
#Brexit
meant for Boston, Lincs who voted overwhelmingly for it.
Fishermen have been thrown under the Brexit bus, but farmers and anyone who exports to the EU have been too. This will soon apply for those who rely on EU imports too.
🚨 Brexit, honey, and how the quality we took as standard has vanished
In 2015-17, 14% honey didn’t meet EU requirements.
This year, 46% honey suspected of being adulterated – and shocking 100% of honey tested from 🇬🇧 failed to meet requirements.

MPs urged to block Australia trade deal after ministers break pledge to reveal details
Govt are ramming Australian trade deal, knowing that 🇬🇧 farmers will suffer and the climate crisis sacrificed, only adding just 0.08% to economy and not until 2035.
Lots of people believe they can escape the toxicity of lowering food standards by going vegetarian.
Sadly there is no escaping it as pesticides that are currently banned here will flood in. Doing away with standards has consequences.
Furious farmers’ tractor protest near MPs offices.
This govt is betraying the country as it promised to uphold our standards and protect us from dumping.
This govt promised in its manifesto to hold up our world beating food and animal welfare standards.
Now they’re selling farmers down the river and forcing the people to eat substandard food.
80% of British don’t want lower food standards.
Brexit 🇬🇧🏴 👏👏👏
“England has become a country where the pubs have no 🍺 farmers don't have anyone to pick their 🍎 🥬 🥕 and, even if they did, there aren't enough lorry drivers to get it to the shops."
Govt are betraying 🇬🇧 by reneging on promises that 🇬🇧 would lead the world in animal and food standards. In desperate bid for 🇺🇸 FTA, govt is conceding to 🇺🇸 insistence that our existing food origin labelling is banned.
You won’t be able to work out what you’re buying/eating.
The Conservative manifesto was clear on maintaining existing standards and that greenlights a rebellion by peers.
Agriculture Bill is creating rebellion and dissent on a large scale within the ranks of Tory peers.
Tories have abandoned rural voters.
The double edged sword of Brexit dilemma of the EU import checks. Damned by illegal imports and bio security risk if you delay, damned by inflation and food shortages if you go ahead.
Only way out is dynamic alignment with EU regs and begin journey back as EU members.
The solution to all Brexit difficulties can begin by aligning to EU regs.
Then it will ought to become clear that joining the single market and customs union removes the red tape which is blocking trade and solves Brexit labour shortages.
🚜 Conservative Govt was elected with pledge to uphold our standards but agrees to

🚜 10-15 years phase in so 🇬🇧farmers time to wind down/retire and 🇦🇺 ramp up.

More betrayal by 🇬🇧Govt👇
Small print – revealed by Canberra🇦🇺but suppressed in 🇬🇧 – reveals pledge to protect farmers for 15 years has been dropped 🚜
Prue Leith said, “British farmers are the best in the world – let's support them this week. Everybody who cares about British high food standards should back our farmers. After all, we are what we eat.'
Given the fact that around 80-90% of British people agree with our campaign to uphold British standards for food and animal welfare, any amendment offering protection to 🇬🇧 farmers should fly through the commons.
It’s the will of the people!
Heavy defeat for Govt in Lords as cross-party move to guarantee high food standards post-Brexit.
Peers back 🇬🇧 with a change to the Agriculture Bill aimed at blocking the import of foodstuffs produced abroad at lower animal welfare standards.

Brexit is breaking Britain.
'The market is all going back to Europe.'
Turkey farmer Paul Kelly tells James O'Brien how post-Brexit labour shortages are impacting his industry as Christmas nears.
@mrjamesob
The EU is to introduce sweeping reforms of farming subsidies this week to try to halt the decline of small farms and protect them from the intensification of agriculture fostered by decades of previous policies.
We have until Autumn to let Tory MPs know that people see the destruction of farming as a betrayal of their manifesto pledges.
Otherwise
#AustraliaTradeDeal
will be signed in Autumn.

New report, The Hidden Damage to Public Health, says lowering food standards increases likelihood of antibiotic resistance in humans bc of overuse in intensive animal production and cancer rates could rise if more processed food is allowed to flood market.
Rural uprising: How Britain’s farmers fell out of love with the Conservative Party
Mutiny in the countryside as farmers turn on Tory govt
“I think they could lose 20-25% of the farming vote,” predicted former Tory MP Neil Parish, and Somerset farmer.
So having been doggedly determined that the new EU import checks won’t be delayed, this govt have announced they’ve been delayed again.
Why?
Because they’re inflationary!
So govt admits Brexit causes inflation!
How many time can this ping pong? The government is voting against not only its own manifesto pledge, but against an unprecedented 94% of the public who want to keep our current food standards.
BREAKING:Agriculture Bill in
@UKHouseofLords
-Govt defeat as peers insist by 282 to 244 to strengthen food standards for imported food to ensure they are the same, or higher, as relevant domestic standards after the transition period ends. So the issue goes back to the Commons!
Yup - that's us in the BBC online. Our rural revolt is just warming up. 🚜🇬🇧
Maybe coming to a town near you. We won't compromise on British food and neither should the public. Tell your MP.

We used to be awash with British strawberries before
#Brexit
.
Now they’re only going to be enjoyed by those of us who can grow them in gardens and allotments.
Who is going to feed the British people as more and more British farms give up farming food?
To destroy the food production in Britain is the most irresponsible act of any Govt in recent times.
It leaves us wide open to being controlled by hostile foreign power.
It leaves us at the mercy of climate events when they hit global food stocks.
All for no advantage.
The Australian Trade Deal is a disaster for UK farming.
Boris Johnson guaranteed that Brexit trade deals wouldn’t undercut British farmers, yet that’s exactly what this deal does.
We took our 🚜🚜🚜 to Marlborough to urge

@Conservatives
We have been warning of inevitable food crisis for years.
Brexit is mostly to blame for alarming reality of 🇬🇧 food system.
Ukraine war and climate events were all realities we warned could happen in advent of leaving the EU.
Govt have ignored warnings and food is in crisis.

Shocking to hear our PM broadcast that the slaughter of pigs happens anyway so it doesn’t matter if farmers have to kill their own stock due to the fact his hard Brexit has caused a supply chain shock.
He clearly has no intention of even looking at ways to solve this nightmare.
As feared, newly signed Australia deal - which Parliament hasn’t had a say on - spell curtains for 🇬🇧 agriculture and rural communities.
@timfarron
is right, now we know the impact of the deal, it’s imperative that Parliament gets a vote on this deal.
