Adopt a sister station? Look at the map, find a place you love, reach out and see what they need. And also, if you haven't recently PBS news broadcasts are often far more sane if you need alternatives (also the BBC).

It's not hopeless right now--it's just hard. Feels like this is America's growing up time, come to jesus-face our own mess and missed promise and rough history and broken parts-time. If anywhere there was a place to create a better future. to insist on one.

Saturday morning and just a small note--we don't have to accept the end of public good, we can keep things like PBS and NPR alive, we can find new models for research funding and even health care to bridge, we can insist on and show up as better citizens for better government.

Seattle arguably has deeper pockets than the smallest rural communities, even as things get tighter. But maybe we can "sister city" the stations and keep the airwaves alive in the smallest of communities. So many ways to help, so many insisting on keeping the lights on. ✨.

Here's something good. The local NPR station needed to replace $1.4m in cuts. Anticipating the loss, they had found big donors willing to match up to $700k. They made the appeal this morning, and by afternoon, the community had rallied in sums as small as $5 and saved it.

What a mess, a tragic, disastrous mess. Justice needed to be done decades ago.

This does beg the question. what happened to the records that were flagged? How scrambled are those case files now?.

It has been four years and five summers and this year there are more moths in the garden, which means more caterpillars, which means more birds, which means more song and happy birdy chortlings all day long. I wish that for everybody everywhere.

Today's a very good day for those with means to donate to National Public Radio (NPR) and PBS. And especially if you're a business person, particularly a business leader, corporate support can go a very long way to offsetting cuts. These services matter.

This is troubling. Ukraine's borders are set, it is sovereign. Does this authoritarian who seeks to hold onto power have designs on Ukraine's western territory? These are Russian talking points and alignment. Europe and NATO need to do far more than give this guy a cold shoulder.

One of the things I'm doing this summer is spending a little money on indie presses. I often slip copies into free libraries or leave them in coffee shops to be found. Stanchion is worth a little of your coffee money. There is something different about reading something in print.
