Did a story awhile ago about the Army's recruiting issues & how it's largely attributable to men being less likely than women to be qualified for service - mostly due to academics. https://t.co/PDDnXkgFcw

A decade of declining recruitment numbers for the Army is almost entirely attributable to a significant drop in male recruiting as female enlistments have remained relatively flat, internal service...
Brown University accepted nearly equal numbers of male and female students, but got almost twice as many female applicants. That math meant it was easier for men to get in. Trump's DEI ban may end gender balancing efforts that often benefit men.

Obama's drone strikes were amoung the most covered military elements of his tenure and largely considered one of the most controversial parts of his legacy
Obama authorized over 500 strikes and the PRESS said nothing. Meanwhile, an admiral with a strike package and intel report protects AMERICANS from narco terrorists and all of a sudden people decide to virtue signal? The mental gymnastics of politics by those who lack critical

"Fog of war" does not literally mean fog or smoke.
Q: So you didn't see any survivors after that first strike? HEGSETH: I did not personally see survivors. The thing was on fire. This is called the fog of war. This is what you in the press don't understand. You sit in your air conditioned offices and plant fake stories in the

The Oklahoma Guard's 45th Infantry Division used to wear a swastika for their unit patch (it had association with Native American culture) until the rise of the Nazi Party and subsequent appropriation of that symbol.
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols. The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

Not sure what the deal on this position going from a 4 to 3 star level though. If anyone knows, shoot me a note on Signal: SteveBeynon.28
@StevenBeynon you crashed the AMC CG position so badly they seem to have permanently lost a star

The appointment of Mohan to be one of the Army's top logistics officers comes after my reporting on Gen Hamilton, who previously held the post, found he subverted the promotion process of an unqualified subordinate. It was the first firing of an Army 4 star in over a decade
Lt. Gen. Christopher Mohan was selected for reappointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commander of U.S. Army Materiel Command. https://t.co/qE4TM0FIBt

Solid story from Davis on the unique challenges of fitness among part-time troops who are held to the same standards as their active counterparts. Hegseth, a former Guardsman himself, wants a fitter force - but hasn't outlined a notable plan for it.
NEW: @SecWar wants a fitter force, to include part-time members of the National Guard & other reserve components. I wrote on the systemic barriers that make it a perennially difficult task to keep part-timers — like the viral Texans — in shape. https://t.co/SWnVMjew0x

A new crop of conservative media and influencers signed an agreement with the Pentagon, including the Gateway Pundit, the Post Millennial, Human Events and the National Pulse.
Today, the Department of War is announcing the next generation of the Pentagon press corps. We are excited to announce over 60 journalists, representing a broad spectrum of new media outlets and independent journalists, have signed the Pentagon’s media access policy and will be

An Oct. 20 nomination for Gen. Thomas Bussiere to serve as the service’s vice chief of staff is an error, an Air Force spokesperson told me. Bussiere was previously nominated for the VCSAF role this year, and it was pulled. He publicly announced his plans to retire this month.

Easily one of the smartest hires I've seen in a while, with Rebecca having some of the sharpest defense coverage on the Hill. (a few weeks behind on this, but the algorithm didn't flag this announcement to me)
Today is my first day as a defense reporter @rollcall @CQnow! Very excited to dive back into the congressional defense beat with a great team. Send tips/re-add me to your press lists/say hello at rebecca.kheel@cqrollcall.com. I'm also still on Signal at rhkheel.52.

For my Silent Hill f review, I interview a therapist. She beat the game twice. We talk about how this masterpiece is about the horror of navigating the self, and the shedding and rebuilding of the self until you no longer recognize who remains. https://t.co/6LmMMMsNiW

“Silent Hill F,” examining the social pressures on a girl in 1960s Japan, is one of the psychological horror series’s most confident and resonant installments.

Worth noting that journalists didn't make up their minds whether to sign in a vacuum. Lawyers at all kinds of outlets -- from Fox News to the New York Times -- all saw legal red flags to doing so. This is partly why a journalist shouldn't be making this decision on their own.
