I lived on the Bibby Stockholm while working in Shetland. It was one person to a cabin and we were only on it about 10 hours a day to eat and sleep. I can assure you it was not luxurious and with 2 people to a cabin and most/all day on board it's a recipe for disaster
So the people of Glasgow have to foot Labour's pay discrimination bill but the UK government will cover the same bill in Birmingham. Those broad shoulders of the union not doing much lifting north of the border
NEW: Gov agrees to free up £2.5billion in cash for 19 strapped councils to try and stop them going bust
(11 council deals includes cash for previous years too)
Includes £1.1bn for bankrupt Birmingham Council after £700m equal pay lawsuit...
Capitalisation directions will allow…
Delighted that my motion on anti-Irish racism was passed at full council. Disappointed though that some tried to "both sides" it and dilute it to sectarianism which does the victims of racism a disservice.
Anyone suggesting
@theSNP
should have voted to end FoM on an indicative vote must not have been listening to us for the last 3 years. Understandable maybe though as the BBC has a habit of cutting Ian Blackford off
Glasgow will be footing Labour's pay discrimination bill for the next 30 years and is still paying off extortionate PPP contracts. Combined they cost the city around £70+ million a year, that's Labour's legacy in this city
“What is really happening right now is Glasgow disproportionately suffers from cuts.
The solution the SNP seems to have is that local communities are going to compete with each other for resources.” -
@PostmanCarson
Disappointed that the
@Call_It_Out_
hustings tonight has been cancelled because apparently only
@SNPforGlasgow
and
@glasgowgreens
would put up a candidate. Maybe it's not a surprise that others don't want to face the Irish community when we see the candidates they have selected..
This has absolutely nothing to do with Glasgow City Council and the club alone will have to answer why they are banning supporters who are opposing war crimes and genocide
Why is child poverty so high in the UK yet significantly lower in Scotland than it is in England? Surely to anyone with any semblance of deductive reasoning, it is clear that over a decade of austerity has taken its toll, but SNP mitigations have lessened the impact here.
Clearly Douglas Ross' desire for persecution of gypsy travellers is not an outlier but actually a prerequisite for membership of the tory party. Hard to watch them get up, one after another, and wear their hatred for a minority group on their sleeve
My Labour government will make Britain a clean energy superpower, slashing energy bills and creating tens of thousands of quality jobs.
The route to this runs right through Scotland.
@TamMcKenna1888
It wasn't bad as accommodation for the work we were doing. But double the number of people on it who aren't able to get off and go to work most of the day and they have no idea how long they will be there, you are asking for trouble
Total nonsense from the government's "expert on sectarianism". Apparently GCC should appease the OO and you can't support a football team and be anti-racist at the same time. May as well have the ghost of Cromwell advising
Strange that
@GlasgowTories
would run a capaign based on cleaning up the city then litter half the closes in Easterhouse. Is part of the 5 point plan to throw rubbish in people's hallways and doorsteps? Residents rightly furious about this when I've been speaking to them.
The sneering, condescending attitude displayed towards working class football fans who use the only platform they have to oppose genocide really isn't done from a position of intellectual or moral authority.
A first look at tomorrow's Herald Sport front page as
@MattLindsayHT
hears why Jewish Celtic fans are calling for the board to act after Green Brigade's latest banner
Prince William has renewed his attack on population growth in Africa, blaming it for destroying wildlife on the continent
Critics have accused the Prince of hypocrisy for making such claims while expecting his third child
Anegla Rayner is in Edinburgh this morning for a campaign stop with Anas Sarwar.
In a statement released by Labour, she said: "The SNP want to talk the talk of being a left wing party - but just like the Tories they are more interested in division than solutions."
£35 million a year for the next 30 years to clean up Labour's pay discrimination. That's £35 million every year not being spent on the services and fabric of the city thanks to Labour incompetence.
Out in Blackhill tonight chatting to voters. Postal ballots will start coming out this week and plenty of people planning to return them with
@theSNP

&
#2
This news crew saw the neighbourhoods officer and myself out dealing with this flytipping but refused to interview me because it didn't suit the narrative
'I’d love to bring them through here and let them just see how the people of Easterhouse have got to live.'
COP26 special guests ‘won’t see fly-tipping nightmare in Easterhouse’.
#SNPforGlasgow
will invest in schools and young people ensuring that all primary children will receive free school meals by the end of our term
#GlaBudget2019
The sad thing is that I don't believe this Labour Councillor is being deliberately obtuse, they have so little grasp of policy that they think decriminalisation means legalising the sale of drugs. The whole tone of this that epitomises Glasgow Labour.
Simplifying contributions from the snp yesterday, it seems they want to decriminalise drugs to put a £ on it, tax it, let u grab a bag of heroin on way to work and pray this brings drug deaths down🙈. we on the other hand want more because people deserve more 1/2
'With no currency, no central bank with the ability to do quantitative easing, and no record of issuing sovereign debt, an independent Scotland would find itself making large-scale emergency cuts to public spending – never mind funding decarbonisation'
This is a serious problem for the construction industry and for our social housing projects. Record levels of funding from the Scottish Government will result in fewer houses because brexit has pumped up the price of materials and reduced the available workforce
Saying the women of Glasgow are owed an apology and actually giving them one are two different things. Glasgow City Council would still be fighting this if
@theSNP
hadn't won the election.
#EqualPay
If you are moaning about a tax increase of £165 a year for those on £75k but you are cool with disability allowance being cut you need to go have a word with yourself.
People calling this a split in the SNP are guilty of some serious wishful thinking. There is nobody that has left that shouldn't already have been expelled many times over
It's been an honour to represent Glasgow North East for the last 5 years alongside
@mandy1_morgan
and I'm delighted that
@ProvanSNP
reselected us both to stand again as
@SNPforGlasgow
candidates in May.
Labour types bemoaning a working agreement between the SNP and Greens after their leader specifically said no deals and then in the first week they got rid of their leadership to go back to the worst of the bad old days of Glasgow Labour🤪
We are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2023
#CllrAwards
Community Champion is…🎆…Cllr Ruairi Kelly 🏆Congratulations to an outstanding winner

@GlasgowCC
Honoured to have been made a Belfast Ambassador at the
@BelfastHome
tonight.
#GreenBelfast
. Was great to talk about the steps Glasgow is taking in its drive to
#NetZero
and the collaborative work we can do with Belfast in this field
Labour group: Here's a good idea about public ownership of buses..
SNP: We agree, actually we have already started looking into it..
Paul Sweeney: How can I make cross party agreement about me...
We didn't get a sustained majority for indy in the polls and 13 years in government by concentrating on one issue. Indy will come off the back of all the work we do in communities up and down the country not from twitter spats or simply saying you want it now
Quite the juxtaposition this weekend with one story on the Labour candidate who helped keep energy bills high and another on the SNP MP
@AnneMcLaughlin
, whose campaign has successfully lowered them for people across the country.
I told the parent council of
@SunnysidePri
last year that getting a new pitch for the children would be a priority for me and I am delighted to have secured funding for them.
Glad to see this being welcomed by opposition councillors, but this was funded through the additional resources allocated in the budget meeting which Labour refused to attend or take part in.
Great to see the road works on Dumbarton Rd all completed following my request to council officers.
The bus stop & road markings were repainted, the road is in good condition and there are no deep potholes.
More work is still to be done for the road but it's a good start.
Top priority of an English PM won't be to tackle child poverty by introducing a child payment, or make prescriptions free for sick people, it's to try to oust the Scottish party that did that...
Here is your first look at tomorrow's Daily Record front page, which leads on Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer saying a top priority if he wins the keys to No10 will be to topple Humza Yousaf

Happy new year all. Been a difficult year for so many people and hopefully 2022 will be the light at the end of the tunnel, but 2021 did give us our first child so it wasn't all bad in the Kelly house😊
Fit to govern? Glasgow Labour aren't even fit for opposition, they just said that putting together a budget was too difficult for them. But that's fine, we will continue to clean up the absolute chaos their discrimination legacy left our finances in
Glasgow has worked closely with the Chamber of Commerce and the wider business community to protect jobs and the local economy. Data showing us as the most resilient city in the UK is a real vindication of those efforts
It's quite unbelievable that after everything young people have given up over the last 16 months and how far we are with the vaccination process, there's been a conscious decision taken to give lots of them long covid because some older vaccinated people are bored of restrictions
I grew up in probably the most unionist town in County Antrim and to see this dog whistle sectarianism used against anyone to question their suppprt for independence is vile. If you entertain or engage with this blog you are a clown
Or maybe folk can advise if this is an attempt to foment sectarian hatred against me?
It's certainly a very strange and unsettling thing, whatever is going on here ... I'll leave it to folk to judge for themselves what the motives and mindset are...
@zubirahmed
@StewartMcDonald
@PaulJSweeney
Glagow is home to approx 5000 asylum seekers and would be happy to take many more. The fact that we are underfunded by UK government for this is the major impediment. But don't let the truth get in the way of your propaganda
More flats to be compulsory purchased in our ongoing program of bringing empty homes back into use across the city.
@SNPforGlasgow
have instructed officers to be much more liberal in the use of CPO powers to address empty and poorly maintained flats
Been out today looking at flytipping sites with
@GlasgowNEPolice
and
@GlasgowCC
in Easterhouse and Ruchazie. We have collected names and addresses from the rubbish and people can expect fines in the post and visits from the police
£700 per month is nearly double the average cost of social housing so let's not dress private landlordism up as charity. £700 a month is about £200 higher than the average mortgage in Scotland
Another Labour run council with an astronomical bill for discrimination against female employees. In Glasgow we will be paying off almost £1 billion over the next 30 years because of their incompetence! That's money not being spent on delivering services because of Labour's mess
It is increasingly obvious that multiple private ownership of the transport system is incompatible with a functioning public transport network. Anything other than full public control will just be window dressing.
COP26 delegates will be handed passes they can use on any form of public transport.
Meanwhile, in the real world, transport bosses are axing the Daytripper ticket in Glasgow which allowed unlimited daily use of most rail and bus services.
@Cllr_Higgins
Why are you making this up? You have linked a paper which your party supported that doesn't say what you claim. And while we are at it why did it take for an SNP administration to introduce this when child poverty has been a problem through all the years Labour were in charge?
Fantastic results in Provan getting
@Ivan_McKee
elected with a majority of over 7000. Very proud to have been the election agent and been able to work with such an amazing team in
@ProvanSNP
One thing I know for sure, Glasgow's streets will not be handed over to fascist thugs to intimidate
@no_evictions
, BLM or any other citizens fighting to make people's lives better
Many thanks to my friends and colleagues in
@ehbildu
for having me at their local government conference speaking about how
@SNPforGlasgow
is working with communities to tackle vacant and derelict land in our neighbourhoods
Feeling safe at school is the very least people should expect. This is a huge worry for pupils, staff and parents.
It is essential that no child or worker is at risk of harm because of the SNPs failure to maintain safety standards in our schools.
Wanting people to abandon their own political beliefs and follow unitary British nationalism isn't being a unity politician, its just being a unionist politician
Very proud of my sister Bronagh who was recently named State Bar of Nevada Young Lawyer of the Year, the first non-American to be awarded this. And presented with a Belfast Ambassador medal by
@BelfastHome
.
No pressure Ruairi😅
We now travel 8179 miles from Melbourne to Nevada to meet Bronagh Kelly, who was this month named State Bar of Nevada Young Lawyer of the Year. Bronagh attended Fortwilliam College in Belfast, graduating LLB law with Spanish from Queens, in 2010, before moving to 🇺🇸 in 2011.
Great to hear that
@scotgov
have confirmed £535,000 of funding for the renovation of
#ProvanHall
in Glasgow North East. As the oldest house in Glasgow it is important we preserve this historic building!
This has all become so undignified, Kate and Ash have shown themselves to not only be utterly unfit to lead but their ability to remain members of our party must surely be called into question
EXCL: Kate Forbes demands SNP appoints independent observers to oversee leadership vote amid secrecy row and clams ballot could be rigged
Forbes campaign formally asks SNP HQ for “robust, experienced, third-party auditor” to be appointed “without delay”
2022 was a record year for North Sea oil and gas profits.
If Labour was in government right now, we’d be using a proper windfall tax on those profits to fund a Council Tax freeze this year.
Government is about choices. A Labour government will make fairer choices 🌹
Really looking forward to
@RuchazieP
opening. This will hopefully be the first of many projects run by and for the people of Ruchazie.
#Communitywealth
and capacity built from the ground up is how we ensure sustainable jobs and services for local people

Out on the doors in Garthamlock tonight with
@mandy1_morgan
,

and
@GLAChristina
chatting to voters about the work we have been doing locally. Support across the North East looking strong.
I was out yesterday with our deep clean team and city makers in Easterhouse scraping footpaths and delittering with the help of community volunteers. Taking your rubbish home is such a simple ask that would make all our neighbourhoods much easier to maintain 🗑️
Here is tomorrow's Sunday Mail front page which leads on Glasgow City Council paying £1.5bn to rent its own buildings over 30 years to settle £770m of equal pay claims

Despite what some people would have you believe, Glasgow is a city in the process of major development and transformation. While city budgets are in a very difficult place, there is clearly confidence that Glasgow is going in the right direction
This is one of the best programmes in Glasgow and shameful that Labour would try to remove it when it is so well utilised by the likes of
@FARE_Scotland
@StPaulsYF
@TrustConnect
and many others across Glasgow North East
🥀Labour are the only group at today’s budget who proposed to cut funding for the Holiday Food Programme.
This would end the provision of food within the scheme at a time when families are already struggling and making difficult decisions due to the cost of living crisis.
Michelle Thomson, from Kate Forbes' campaign team, is scathing: “It increasingly looks like the top brass would much prefer an establishment transfer of power – to carry on with the status quo – rather than allowing our membership the freedom to make a healthy democratic choice."
Delighted to approve this today. It was a pity that
@scottishlabour
councillors tried to block the long term lease. Any thoughts on why that would be
@PaulJSweeney
?
This is such a bizarre take given the utterly rampant anti Irish/anti Catholicism within unionism in general and the outright discrimination catholics were subjected to in the North of Ireland by successive UK governments.
EXC: Labour MP hopeful Laura McConnell said she does not trust 'Scots in general' in an unearthed tweet.
She is on the shortlist for the twinned selection of Livingston/Bathgate and Linlithgow
Correct, supporting or accepting Westminster overruling the democratic decision of the Scottish Parliament should be incompatible with SNP membership let along leadership
If we cave in & let UK Govt veto a Bill passed by majority of Scot Parliament we set an incredibly dangerous precedent. We must defend the democratic will of the Scot Parliament, if we do not the UK Govt will feel empowered to veto any legislation we bring forward in the future.
Busy morning with
@mandy1_morgan
and Cllr Burke helping the
@FARE_Scotland
volunteers pack food hampers and then delivering 50 to Ruchazie Church to be distributed to the community this week
