Whisper it, but it might suit all the political parties in Scotland to bring the Scottish Parliament elections forward a year to 2025 - Me for
@thecourieruk
A reminder to UK Journalists tuning in, the Gender Reform Recognition Act was passed by 2/3rds of MSPs from all 5 parties represented in
@scotparl
(inc two Tory front benchers) - blocking it will anger Nationalists AND Devolutionists.
If your response to people leaving the Labour Party this morning is “good riddance” - then you’re part of the problem.
Lessons of history tell us that Labour wins elections when it’s a broad church 🥀- that’s how you beat the Tories.
Fascinating and smart move by New Zealand Parliament: they’ve suspended their legislative programme and almost all business but setting up new super select committee chaired by opposition leader with majority opposition members to scrutinise response to Covid19 each morning.
Today I was called “a drooling halfwitted imbecile who doesn’t know what simple words mean” - 18mths after leaving elected politics. If you’re still amplifying this guy I know what side of decency you picked
Twice in the past 10 days I’ve been a) the only one in a shop with a face covering b) openly laughed at for it. Wont put me off (fair to say I’ve had worse!) but it’s utterly depressing. Just me?
I word for no campaigners in Scotland. You’re wasting precious time arguing about mandates. Last referendum won by persuading centre left voters 1) EU membership only safe in UK 2) A progressive Labour gov was on the horizon 3) Currency and Economic security. 1/2
There’s nothing rushed about the Gender Recognition Reform Act. It most be one of the most consulted upon bills in the history of
@scotparl
and is built a round a promise all parties made in 2016.

@JennyGilruth
sends pic of our dog watching me on the BBC News Channel **
Me: “OMG, did he really know it was me? That’s amazing” * tears swelling *
Jenny: “Nah, I put a dog biscuit on top of the telly” 😤
I’ve just been behind this door to read the UK Gov’s secret assessment of Brexit on the economy. I’m not allowed to tell you what I’ve learnt, but i can tell you that I’m off to lie down in a very dark room.
I may be sometime. 🤦🏻♀️
Huge, heartfelt “thank yous” due to so many people across the political spectrum who supported me throughout this recent court case.
Here’s what I have to say following the ruling in my favour today:
So.
@JennyGilruth
just offered to take me to Asda for breakfast. She literally said the words “I thought it would be romantic and I can fit it around my leafleting...”
Be still my beating heart 👀
My ability to protect myself from Covid19 is limited when societal protections are taken away (masks/distancing etc), explain to me again how that advances personal freedom? Everything feels just a wee bit kamikaze at the mo.
Being outed. Losing control of your identity. Having your sexuality used against you. Your family’s safety being put at risk + your relationship with them jeopardised.
...Everything about this story is wrong and it shames the UK Government. PM must act.
Although this remains my favourite
@willie_rennie
campaign moment and it came from
@kezdugdale
.
(For those unaware of the context,Kez had been publicly outed shortly before this and it was a sublime way of responding 👌🏼👏🏼🌈)
Drove to Leith and back tonight to run an errand.
Saw two gay couples holding hands. Openly, freely and lovingly.
It makes my heart sing and I never want to stop smiling from ear to ear when I see it.
What a difference from times gone by. 💓

Reasons 1 and 2 have melted away and the Yes movement have been working on 3 since 2014.
You need a new argument for the union which isn’t rooted in Queen and country unionism.
You need this regardless of whether referendum is next year or in a generation. 2/2
After tonight’s vote in the Commons it’s clear that Scottish Tory MPs aren’t just failing to stand up for Scotland’s interest - they are actively working against it 🤦🏻♀️

Just a word to thank everyone for all the encouragement, solidarity and support over the past few days.
...Not least
@JennyGilruth
who has been out of this world. Judge has now retired to consider evidence and will likely report in 4 weeks time.
I know everyone is well rested and totally rational, so will take this at face value + not read anything beyond it - but I could not be prouder of
@JennyGilruth
💜
She’s worked her socks off 24/7 for what she believes in. Mostly my socks actually, and I now can’t wait for Xmas
Naturally it’s all down to the list vote, but the odds of an snp majority are improving by the hour, on a significantly higher turnout. A largely dull election is about to alight
In the spirit of celebrating our public servants, defending the vocation of politics and the sacrifices people make to serve - a wee tribute from me to
@NicolaSturgeon
"She is a formidable politician and she leaves office on her own terms and in a strong position to define her own legacy."
@kezdugdale
: Why I am proud to live in Nicola Sturgeon’s Scotland
Finally, the truth is everyone is usually on much better terms behind the scenes than you think and if you need any proof, here's
@nicolasturgeon
sharing her sweeties with
@ruthdavidson
from 2016 ;) (11/11)
This is astonishing - more people have signed the revoke Article 50 petition in Edinburgh North and Leith than voted Labour in the 2017 General Election here. That’s 17,000+ people.
UK Petition now just short of 4 million.
Sounds like the many to me.
Good to see the Scottish Parliament back the case for a People’s Vote tonight. Given the utter mess the Tories have made of the negotiations, it’s only right the people have the final say
#stopbrexit
Memo to self, you can’t have a nuanced debate about the constitution.
…And for as long as that’s the case, Scotland will be stuck in a reductive holding loop, to the serious detriment of people who really need change.
Thank you very much to everyone for their lovely messages today - it’s been overwhelming. Exciting times ahead.
Meanwhile - I’ll continue to work hard for Lothian constituents. Surgeries will continue until July and I have a big members’ debate on fostering coming up soon 👌🏼
I’d hoped that the sexist tropes my & prior generations had to put up with would’ve been well in the past by now. But here we have a smart, articulate woman - holding senior government office - still being told she’s a ‘shouty’ girl for (perfectly calmly) expressing her opinions.
Watched Tory MSP’s clutch their pearls at the political use of the rape clause at
#FMQs
today. Tough. It is political and you sat on your hands and said the sum total of NOTHING when it mattered 🙅🏻♀️
There must be a dead obvious super clever answer but why aren’t there regular tannoys on
@scotrail
trains telling people they are still required to wear a mask?
Sorry to say this but
@ProfTomkins
is currently dying on his arse in chamber right now. Sorry excuse after cliched line after manipulated information... Embarrassing for Tories to be so distant from the facts facing and needs of our country
Sisterly solidarity is key to achieving gender equality. So let’s get tweeting women who inspire us, including those who we disagree with. If you’re named you have to pass it on...
