Not surprised to see Trump's attacks on
@elonmusk
. Elon's a classic 🇺🇸 immigrant story - an entrepreneur with a real record of success. Started EV revolution w/Tesla, resurrected US rocket industry w/SpaceX, fighting climate change while promoting American innovation.
After more than 1,000 board meetings at Microsoft, Airbnb, LinkedIn, PayPal, and more...
I've learned that effective boards don't happen by accident.
Here are 8 rituals of the world's best boards: 👇
Immigration is pure entrepreneurship. You leave behind everything familiar to start somewhere new. You must acquire skills. You will have to improvise on occasion. It’s a bold proposition.
I believe starting a company is like jumping off a cliff and assembling a plane on the way down -- your willingness to jump is your most valuable asset as an entrepreneur.
As important as it is to never forget the terror attack that took place a year ago today on our Capitol, it's equally important to remember that Donald Trump's War on Democracy neither started nor ended on 01/06/20.
I wrote a new book with
@OpenAI

It’s called Impromptu: Amplifying our Humanity through AI.
This, as far as I know, is the first book written with GPT-4.
Here’s how it all began…
Inspired by
@Lin_Manuel
, I produced a battle rap music video about centralized and decentralized currencies, pitting Alexander Hamilton against Satoshi Nakamoto.

That you should engage with the smartest, most compelling people who disagree with you to learn and evolve your thinking. (Obviously wish more people did this.).
Inspired by the potential of DALL•E and NFTs — and the possibilities that they unleash together — my team and I have created a number of small image collections that we'll be tokenizing as NFTs.
The first collection debuts on Magic Eden today.
Here's why I'm experimenting:
Trump, OTOH, is a spoiled rich kid who bankrupts everything he touches. Including the US economy. His career highlight was pretending to be a successful entrepreneur on a TV show, instead of being one in real life like Elon.
“Starbucks is not profit-driven. Starbucks is values-driven, and as a result of those values, we have become very profitable.” —Howard Schultz, Starbucks
I believe every business is an experiment. For the experiment to succeed, you need to test your hypothesis, measure the results, and follow where they lead.
Joe Biden has already received more votes than any candidate in history - 69 million-plus and over 50% of the total cast. The American people are speaking. We must respect their will and count all votes.
Personally, I support people working to build a better future for America and the world. Trump is such a stuck-in-the-past sore loser that he'd rather spread lies, incite insurrection and damage American democracy than admit he lost a fair election.
Blitzscaling your company isn’t easy; if it were, everyone would do it. Like most things of value in this world, blitzscaling is contrarian and unique.
Most entrepreneurs assume they know what customers want - those assumptions are based on instinct and experience. But intuition is no match for data. Think like a scientist and design experiments; test a hypothesis; then try again.

So many special moments in yesterday's

@Betterup
's mission to democratize coaching was an incredible way to wrap up the day.
Speed is one of your key advantages as a startup. But strategic patience is another — knowing when to wait, and when it's time to strike. Timing is everything. The key? Stay ready to move with explosive speed.

When you make a fast decision as a leader, the gift you’re giving your team is TIME. Every minute you deliberate is a minute your team can’t use to execute. Today's lesson = Decide, decide, decide!

5 takeaways for serial entrepreneurs from my conversation with
@ev
:
1. Bet on the way the world is moving.
2. Start from where you are.
3. Don’t worry about a wipeout.
4. Persevere. And position yourself for luck.
5. Don’t derail your own destiny.
I’ve said this before, but: If you're not embarrassed by your first product release, you've released it too late. Move at the speed of opportunity.

Results aside, grateful for this year’s concession speeches. Per 🇺🇸 tradition, losing candidates of both parties publicly conceded to winning candidates. So basic. And yet another rebuke to Trumpism.
4 years ago I invested $30m in because it’s an essential service for citizen voice. Today I’m proud to donate all my equity to secure its long-term stewardship in the public interest.
Congratulations to new

I am matching $2 for $1 donations to

“We wanted flying cars. Instead we got 140 characters.” -- Peter Thiel, 2013
What a difference 8 years makes!
In 2021, we've got 280 characters. And threaded tweet-storms. And – wait for it – flying cars!
Get your sleep. When you’re sleep-deprived, you make mistakes, you lose your temper, you miss opportunities. And those diminishing returns will slow you down much more than getting some rest. Enduring, intelligent speed is what matters.

4 lessons on how to scale a magical experience from Airbnb's
@bchesky
:
1. Pay passionate attention to your user.
2. Design an 11-star experience.
3. Figure out what part of that magical thing can scale.
4. Take advantage of the time before you scale.

has slowly taken shape enterprise tool that’s changed thousands of lives for the better.
The goal? Change the societal mindset around mental well-being.
But before you can change the world’s mindset, you have to change your own.
Listen:
1. Be inclusive.
Many board meetings are dominated by one or two board members.
The best boards seek out the opinions of everyone in the room, not just the loudest.
An IPO might only be the second inning of a company's story. That's why "venture capital at scale" is needed -- a major investor who partners with the CEO of a post-IPO company for the long term. That's where Reinvent Technology Partners enters the story.
If we all listened to conventional wisdom, we’d never have discovered fire (too dangerous) or flight (impossible). By definition, truly big ideas are contrarian.

An unlock for your career: network literacy.
It's knowing how to access information across your relationships. Both online and off.
Here's how network literacy works:
There are no "gimme putts" in elections, but that's what Trump wants. Democracy is built on laws that ensure the candidate chosen by the voters is the candidate who wins. Let election officials do their jobs, without desperate and baseless efforts to interfere!
#CountEveryVote
I have been speaking out about why a vote for business is a vote for Biden. However, I also think that its important for business leaders to lead on politics, including (what should be) non partisan issues in counting every vote, election legitimacy and patience, and rule of law
On the eve of

Trump cost Republicans the Governor’s mansions in WI, MI, PA and MD. A lesson here: if you entrust your party to a sore loser, it’s bad not only for your party, but also for America.
Pro Tip: Don’t run against democracy in America. You will lose.

The future is always sooner and stranger than you think. While it’s difficult to predict exactly where artificial intelligence will take us, it's important to focus some of our best minds on the implications of living with this technology.
What if, in the future, everything breaks humanity's way?
In my new podcast, Possible, my co-host

Here's a preview:
And just to be clear, only anti-Americans should think that this is a partisan issue. This is about American democracy and ensuring the will of the people is heard. I support Democratic and Republican leaders who disavow Trump's Big Lie and work to uphold democracy.
The first chance to defeat Donald Trump in 2024 is in the primaries. That's why, even though I'll be voting for Joe Biden in November, I'm supporting Nikki Haley in the Republican primary.
The rise of personal computing changed our world.
@BillGates
spotted that inflection point — and accelerated it. (Then he did it again. And again.) He's my guest on the unmissable 50th episode of
@MastersofScale
:
The President doesn’t get to pick the states where people's votes get counted. The American people get to pick their president. Joe Biden believes all votes should be counted, because Joe Biden believes in democracy.
Just to be clear: The Trump administration is asking the courts to stop counting in PA and MI, Trump has declared victory and called any deviation in the coming days theft, etc.
It probably won't work. But he's trying to delegitimize the election. And it's dangerous.
What I learned
@PayPal
: You can focus on being 2x better than your competition, or you can find a white space where there’s no competition at all. Both approaches are valid; one is probably more fun.

Day 9
It's hard to fix a company culture at scale. If you have a “C” culture you can revise it to a “B+” but it will never be an “A”. The only way you get an “A” company culture is to create it at the start, and preserve it.

5. Invest in relationships.
Hollywood idolizes board meetings as the place where crucial decisions are made.
The truth is the best ideas, collaboration, and feedback happen outside the boardroom in informal 1:1 meetings.

4. Hire for cofounder mindsets.
The best boards understand this secret to hiring great executives.
People with a cofounder mindset are willing to take risks when success isn't guaranteed.
After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November.

Blitzscaling is too good a technique to be limited to Silicon Valley and China, and we have too many problems that need to be solved at lightning speed.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg embodied America at its best. Her clarity of purpose, courage, and tenacity in the pursuit of equality and justice are a legacy everyone committed to America's highest ideals should look to for guidance and inspiration.

It's a war the Republican Party and its leaders wage every day, as they reiterate the Big Lie that Trump won, and methodically go about rigging 2024 via new voter restriction laws in dozens of states and granting new powers to state legislatures to thwart the will of the people.
Blitzscaling Rule
#1
: Embrace Chaos.
Traditional business strives for order in management, operations, and financial results. But when you're blitzscaling, the focus on order needs to be replaced with a willingness to embrace a level of chaos that would horrify most MBAs.
1. Congress and Joe Biden must summon the will to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, to ensure key voter protections on a nation-wide level.
3. Every citizen who values free and fair elections must participate to counteract Trump's War on Democracy. Support candidates committed to expanding voter access. Urge friends and family to register to vote. Vote in every election, including mid-terms. They all matter!
