Depends on the parents. Jewish parents push Hebrew School. Asian parents push math skills. Black/White parents push sports. Hispanic parents push life skills. But all the parents I know push their kids todo one thing extra, and to do that one extra thing extremely well.
One of the biggest gaps between parents I interact with online and parents I know IRL is that Internet People seem really interested in their kids getting a rigorous accelerated education in a way that almost nobody I know personally does.

my least libertarian view is that for people who meet certain criteria for financial distress (low credit rating, bankruptcy, whatever) there should be a legally mandated prompt whenever you’re about to do something stupid with your money that says “are you fucking serious, dude”

I think this right, but it’s also the system prompt’s fault. It’s still too sycophantic. Gemini the smartest is often the worst on that count. It code-mode it’s over eager. In text-mode you need to be adversarial or you get “French fry salad is a brilliant idea!”
